Cruise the Western Caribbean from Galveston

By PerkJolt Travel Desk
Royal Caribbean Western Caribbean from Galveston (Harmony / Allure): A 7-Night Planning Guide
Travel scene

At a glance

  • Sailing: a 7-night Western Caribbean round trip from the Port of Galveston, Texas, typically on an Oasis-class ship. Which ship is homeported there changes by season; we could not confirm Harmony of the Seas or Allure of the Seas at Galveston as of 2026-10-11 (neither ship page we opened listed Galveston sailings), so confirm on royalcaribbean.com.
  • Typical rotation: a sea day, Roatan (Honduras), Costa Maya (Mexico), Cozumel (Mexico), then sea days home. Some sailings swap a port for Perfect Day at CocoCay. Treat every port as variable.
  • Pier: Royal Caribbean's terminal at the Port of Galveston is Terminal 10 .
  • Airports: Houston's two commercial airports, George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and William P. Hobby (HOU), both run by Houston Airports .
  • Parking: the port runs 13 surface lots, an indoor facility and a garage (about 5,500 spaces); cruise parking can be prepaid online, and the port's page says you can cancel online without a fee up to 24 hours before sailing . Rates differ by lot; the page did not list them.
  • Documents: US citizens on closed-loop cruises have special document rules; confirm on cbp.gov (the page would not open for us) and with the line.
  • Safety: Honduras and Mexico both carry State Department advisories; read them before you book (details below).
  • Biggest first-timer mistake: assuming the port will look like the brochure. Pier, tender and excursion details move; book what matters and keep a no-plan fallback.

Who this is for

This guide suits first-time cruisers from Texas and the Gulf South who want a short drive, a big ship and three ports of call on a single week. It also suits points-minded travelers who would rather spend their effort on flights and a pre-cruise hotel than on the cabin.

It is a weaker fit if you want to snorkel the Caribbean's clearest water every day, hate crowds, or need a quiet vacation. An Oasis-class ship is a floating resort with thousands of guests, and the ports can have several ships in at once.

When to go

Western Caribbean sailings run year-round from Galveston. Our judgment, not an official statement: the Gulf is warmest and most humid in summer, Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30, and school-holiday weeks price higher. Weather can alter or skip ports, so buy flexibility, not just a fare.

What it costs, three ways

We do not quote cabin prices; they change daily. Build your own band:

Three free or low-cost moves

  1. Walk Galveston's Seawall at sunrise before embarkation. Free, flat and a short drive from the cruise terminals. Photo subject: Galveston Seawall at dawn.
  2. Skip the excursion in Cozumel and take a taxi to a public beach or beach club. Low-cost; you pay a day-pass at the club, not a ship markup. Photo subject: Cozumel waterfront and Punta Langosta pier.
  3. Walk the Mahahual malecon in Costa Maya. The pier and the beachfront strip are a short walk apart, so a free morning is realistic (confirm pier layout on arrival). Photo subject: Mahahual malecon.

Three decisions that shape the week

Ship excursion or DIY? A ship-run excursion costs more, but it is the only kind where the line holds the ship if the tour runs late (confirm the policy on royalcaribbean.com). A do-it-yourself day costs less and is more flexible, but you carry the timing risk. Our rule of thumb: take the ship's excursion for anything more than an hour from the pier, and go independent only for things within a short taxi ride or walk.

Drive or fly? If you live in Texas or a neighboring state, driving and prepaying parking at the port is often the simplest plan. The port reports about 5,500 parking spaces across lots, an indoor facility and a garage, and you can cancel a prepaid reservation online up to 24 hours before sailing . If you fly, land the day before and compare IAH and HOU on total door-to-door time, not just fare.

Package or pay as you go? Drink packages, Wi-Fi and gratuities are daily charges that change. Write your own number for each, from the line's official pages, before you decide: drinks
per day, Wi-Fi
per day, gratuities

Who should skip this sailing

If you need certainty about which ports you will visit, this is not the product: Royal Caribbean can swap or skip ports for weather, and some sailings replace a call with Perfect Day at CocoCay. If you are uneasy about Honduras or Mexico, read the State Department pages first: Honduras was at Level 3 in the page we read, dated December 10, 2024, and the Mexico page, dated September 6, 2024, urges increased caution in Quintana Roo [read 2026-10-11, https://travel.state.gov]. In that case, a Bahamas itinerary may fit better.

Full guide

Before you buy anything, open your booking, list the three ports you are actually scheduled to visit, and note the all-aboard time for each. Those two pieces of information shape every other choice in this guide. This guide is a plan, not a promise: ports, ships and prices move, so use the checklists to verify each item. The full guide covers every port with clock times, Houston airport logistics, pre-night hotel base cards, what to pre-book, a points playbook and a printable day-by-day plan.

This is the free lite guide. The full day-by-day guide, with maps, photo stops, rain plans and the points playbook, is part of PerkJolt All-Access.

Good to know before you go

We checked the facts in this guide on 2026-10-11. Confirm fares, fees, gratuity rates, package prices, port calls and all-aboard times on Royal Caribbean's official page and in your booking / the line's app before you sail.
