MSC Meraviglia-class ships: the insider’s guide to Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and Euribia (2026)

By PerkJolt Travel Desk
Travel scene

At a glance

  • Class: five large MSC ships often grouped as Meraviglia-class: Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and Euribia (class membership per Wikipedia, confirm on the line's site).
  • Signature feature: the Galleria, an indoor promenade with shops, bars and an LED dome ceiling that plays light shows .
  • Typical trip: 3, 4 and 7 night Caribbean sailings from Miami, plus summer Mediterranean and Northern Europe, for MSC Meraviglia as the page showed it on 2026-10-12 . Homeports change by season.
  • Best for: families, multigenerational groups and first-time cruisers who want a big-ship resort feel.
  • Biggest watch-out: the fare is only the start. Service charge, drinks, specialty dining and some activities are extra.
  • Paperwork: a passport for almost everyone; see the entry rules below.

Who this ship class is for

These are big, busy, European-flavored resort ships. They suit families who want a water park, a LEGO-themed play area and kids' clubs. They suit couples who like to dress up for an evening stroll along a lit promenade. They suit anyone who likes choice: lots of bars, shows and restaurants, with many of them at an extra cost.

They are less ideal if you want a quiet, small-ship feel. Expect crowds at the pools and buffet on sea days, and expect an international crowd, with announcements in several languages.

The ships in one paragraph

Meraviglia and Bellissima are the first two; Grandiosa and Virtuosa are the longer "Meraviglia-Plus" versions; Euribia is the LNG-powered newer ship (all per Wikipedia, confirm on the line's site). A Wikipedia citation title we saw calls Grandiosa the first Meraviglia-Plus ship delivered, in October 2019, and describes Euribia as the third Meraviglia-Plus ship, so the exact sub-class split is worth confirming on MSC's own ship pages.

The 3 best things that cost nothing extra

  1. A slow lap of the Galleria at night. The LED dome ceiling plays light shows, and wandering costs nothing. Photo subject: MSC Meraviglia Galleria promenade, LED dome ceiling lit at night.
  2. The ropes course and sports court. The ship page lists the ropes course and sports court as free, with height, weight and age limits and some activities carrying fees . Photo subject: MSC Meraviglia ropes course on the open deck, sea behind.
  3. A theater show. The ship page names several theater productions, including Rock Circus and The Rise of Houdini . Which shows run depends on the ship and the sailing. Photo subject: MSC Meraviglia Broadway Theatre stage, empty, house lights on.

Where to be on the ship

Be in the Galleria around the late afternoon before dinner, when it fills with lights and music but before the evening crowd. For a calmer sea day, look for the adults-only pool the ship page names, the Horizon Pool . The thermal area in the MSC Aurea Spa is for guests 18 and over, same page.

Honest negatives before you book

Big ships mean lines: at the buffet, the water slides and the theater doors on sea days. The Galleria is lovely, but it is also where shops and bars compete for your attention, so music and crowds are part of the scene. Some of the best-sounding extras, such as the flight simulator, the racing simulator, the arcade and bowling, carry charges according to the ship page . Budget for them if you have kids.

Cabin choice matters more than it looks. Rooms near the Galleria, the pool deck or the theater can be noisy at odd hours, and some outside rooms look onto the promenade rather than the sea. We cover the details in the full guide.

Rough cost of the trip, three ways

Fill the blanks from the official pages; we do not quote a specific sailing's fare because it changes daily.

  • Plan your budget

Add up each column for everyone in your cabin, then divide by nights. That per-night number is the one to compare across cruise lines and against a resort stay.

Three quick booking tips

  1. Compare the fare the way you would compare a resort: add the service charge and your likely drinks and extras before deciding a "cheap" fare is cheap.
  2. Decide early whether you want the plain fare or an upgraded experience level. MSC sells different experience levels, with MSC Yacht Club as a separate ship-within-a-ship area; check the line's experiences page for what each includes.
  3. Book specialty restaurants, shows that need reservations and any spa time as soon as the line's booking window opens. Check the window in your booking or the app.

Documents and entry rules

For a closed-loop cruise (start and end in the same US port), US citizens have had special document options under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative; check the current rule at https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/western-hemisphere-travel-initiative, which we could not open on 2026-10-12. A valid passport is the safest choice, especially if you may need to fly home from a foreign port after a missed ship or a medical issue. Non-US citizens should check visa rules for the US and each port. Check the State Department advisory for each foreign country on your itinerary at travel.state.gov; we could not open the Bahamas page on 2026-10-12.

Want the whole playbook?

The full guide ($4.99) has deck-by-deck notes, cabins to book and avoid, what to reserve on day one, a sample 7-day week from New York, a points-and-booking playbook, a checklist and a fill-in cost sheet.

This is the free lite guide. The full day-by-day guide, with maps, photo stops, rain plans and the points playbook, is part of PerkJolt All-Access.

Good to know before you go

We checked the facts in this guide on 2026-10-12. Fares, fees, gratuities, package prices, itineraries, deck plans and policies move often, so confirm them on MSC's official site, in your booking or in the MSC for Me app before you sail. Where we could not open an official page, we say so and tell you which page to check.
