Virgin Voyages Brilliant Lady ship guide

By PerkJolt Travel Desk
Travel scene

At a glance

  • Ship: Brilliant Lady, adults-only (18+ as commonly described; confirm on Virgin's adults-only FAQ), red-funnel Lady-class ship.
  • Size: about 110,000 tons and 2,770 passengers (per Wikipedia, confirm on the line's page) . In service since 5 September 2025 per the same page.
  • Model: no main dining room, 20-plus eateries included, tips and basic Wi-Fi included, drinks on a Bar Tab (as commonly described; confirm on Virgin's "What's Included" page).
  • Pier in New York: Manhattan Cruise Terminal, Hudson River, end of West 48th Street .
  • Bermuda in this guide is a representative 5-night plan, not a published sailing. Check the ship's page for what actually sails.
  • Advisory: Bermuda is Level 1, Exercise Normal Precautions, issued April 10, 2026 .

Who it is for. Adults who want a cruise that feels more like a boutique hotel with a late night: food and a gym class by day, a show and a dance floor by night. It suits couples, friend groups and solo travelers. It does not suit anyone traveling with children (no one under 18), or anyone who wants a buffet-and-pool-slide ship, or who wants a formal dinner in a big dining room.

The 7 facts that decide the booking

  1. Adults-only. Confirm the minimum age on Virgin's adults-only page before you book.
  2. The fare is built around what is included. Virgin's FAQ labels its pricing as food, drinks, Wi-Fi and more included, but the page does not list the details; not confirmed on Virgin's FAQ as of 2026-10-13. Read "What's Included" before you compare fares to other lines.
  3. Where it sails. Virgin's ship page lists the 2025 inaugural New York to Caribbean season, plus 2026 Seattle-based Alaska and Mexican Riviera sailings, Los Angeles to Miami Panama Canal sailings, and Miami Eastern Caribbean sailings including the Beach Club at Bimini . Bermuda was not shown on Virgin's ship page as of 2026-10-13, so check dates before you plan around it.
  4. Reservations. Restaurants and shows are booked in the app. Virgin has typically opened this window about 45 days out; confirm in your booking.
  5. Cabin location matters more than category. Avoid the cabin directly under the club and the pool deck.
  6. Sailing Club status match. Virgin's page says travelers with status in select airline, hotel or cruise programs can apply for a match. The page lists an October 31, 2026 date while its terms show different dates, so confirm it is still open .
  7. Deposit and final payment: typically 20% deposit and final payment 120 days before sailing per Virgin's payments FAQ; confirm on that page and in your booking.

3 free things in New York before you board

  1. Walk the Hudson River Park waterfront near the terminal at sunset. Photo subject: Hudson River with the Manhattan Cruise Terminal piers.
  2. Ride the Staten Island Ferry only if your schedule allows; check the operator's page. Photo subject: Statue of Liberty from the Hudson harbor.
  3. Walk Times Square at night. Photo subject: Times Square at night. It is five minutes of looking and then you will want to leave.

The full guide covers all of this in depth, with a deck-by-deck, cabin picks, dining, a day-by-day Bermuda plan, points mini-playbook, cost sheet and printable day plans.

How to decide in ten minutes

  • Start with the date and homeport. Open Virgin's Brilliant Lady page and see which seasons are listed; Virgin's ship page lists 2025 New York to the Caribbean, 2026 Seattle, Los Angeles to Miami and Miami sailings. If Bermuda is not on your date, use the same ship-day logic in this guide for another itinerary.
  • Decide on cabin type next. If you will be out all day in port, an Insider cabin saves money. If you want fresh air and quiet mornings, spend on Sea Terrace.
  • Price the extras. Because food, tips and basic Wi-Fi are described as included, your extras are drinks, spa, shore excursions and flights. The full guide has a cost sheet with blanks.
  • Check your loyalty: if you hold status with an airline, hotel or another cruise line, the Sailing Club page describes a status match. Confirm it is open.

Who should skip it. Anyone traveling with under-18s. Anyone who wants a full-service formal dining room every night. Anyone who dislikes late-night music; pick a cabin away from the clubs or choose another line.

What the full guide adds. A deck-by-deck in words, cabins to book and avoid, what to reserve first in the app, a six-day plan for a representative 5-night New York to Bermuda week with numbered stops, the New York pier and transit steps, a points mini-playbook from our verified transfer chart, an Insider's checklist, a cost sheet with blanks, packing and a printable one-page plan per day.

Common mistakes to avoid. Booking a cabin without looking at what sits above and below it. Waiting to reserve restaurants until you board. Assuming a port call is guaranteed; weather and port operations can change it. Forgetting that adult-only means every member of your party must meet the age rule. Planning a tight flight home on debarkation morning.

Money-saving angles. Fare sales and Sailing Club emails are Virgin's own tools; check the sailing-club page for member offers. Book flights with points where the chart lets you (see the full guide). Pick a pre-cruise hotel outside Times Square. Use the app to compare shore excursion prices against DIY.

Is Bermuda right for a first cruise? It is a good fit: two port days on one island, short distances, English-speaking, and a Level 1 advisory as of the date shown. The trade-off is that you spend a day or more crossing open water each way, so pick a cabin with low motion and bring motion remedies if you need them.

Good to know before you go

We checked what we could on 2026-10-13. Itineraries, port calls, fees, loyalty rules and reservation windows change, sometimes after you book. Confirm everything on Virgin's Brilliant Lady page (https://www.virginvoyages.com/ships/brilliant-lady) and in the Virgin Voyages app before you sail.
