MSC World-class (World Europa / World Asia) ship guide

At a glance
- Class: the MSC World class, which so far means MSC World Europa, MSC World America (its own guide: /guides/cruises/msc-world-america/) and MSC World Asia.
- MSC World Europa is described by Wikipedia as delivered 24 October 2022, 215,863 GT, 6,762 passengers and 22 decks (per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSC_World_Europa, unverified on MSC's page).
- MSC World Asia: MSC's page lists 6,758 passengers, 2,582 staterooms and 2,138 crew, and says it debuts in the Mediterranean in December (checked Oct 16, 2026)
- Signature layout: an open-air World Promenade at the aft, about 104 m long on World Europa (checked Oct 16, 2026)
- Hotel service charge on Mediterranean sailings: €12 ≈ $14 per adult per night Standard, €16 ≈ $18 Yacht Club (checked Oct 16, 2026)
- Representative week below: Barcelona round trip with Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Messina and Valletta. It is representative, not a published sailing.
- Base for the night before: Barcelona; the metro single is €2.90 ≈ $3.27 (checked Oct 16, 2026)
- The one thing guests get wrong: treating a ship this size like a small ship. Book dining, spa and shows in the MSC app early, and plan the first-day muster around them.
Who this is for
Families and groups who want a big, resort-style ship with lots of choice, and first-timers happy to be among thousands of other guests. It is a poor fit if you want a quiet, small-ship feel or a port-intensive itinerary with long port days; a ship of this size (Wikipedia lists 6,762 passengers, unverified on https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise/ships/msc-world-europa) means busy lifts, queues at peak times and crowded ports on a day when several ships call.
The ship in 300 words
MSC World Europa is the first ship in the World class, according to MSC's page. (checked Oct 16, 2026) That page also lists 13 dining venues (six specialty restaurants and three buffet restaurants), seven swimming pools, the 1,012 square metre MSC Aurea Spa, and a dry slide called Venom Drop @ The Spiral that drops through 11 decks to the promenade. (checked Oct 16, 2026) The signature feature is the World Promenade, an outdoor strip at the open aft with ocean views. (checked Oct 16, 2026)
MSC World Asia is the newer sister. MSC's page says it begins sailing in winter 2026 and debuts in the Mediterranean in December, and lists 1,094 ft length, 154 ft beam, 253 ft height, 6,758 passengers and 2,582 staterooms. (checked Oct 16, 2026) Its delivery date is Not confirmed on https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise/ships/msc-world-asia as of 2026-10-16, so treat any date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
MSC World Europa's page lists the Mediterranean in 2027 and 2028 and the Antilles in winter 2026-2027 as its regions, with no ports named. (checked Oct 16, 2026) Wikipedia describes the ship as usually sailing a 10-day western Europe round trip calling in Italy, France, Malta and Spain (per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSC_World_Europa, unverified on MSC's page). Always confirm the ship and itinerary on the booking you are looking at.
The layout is divided into themed areas that MSC calls districts or neighborhoods on its World America page, including the World Promenade, the Aqua Deck, Family Aventura and the MSC Yacht Club. (checked Oct 16, 2026) Whether World Europa and World Asia use the same district names is Not confirmed on https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise/ships/msc-world-europa as of 2026-10-16, so check each ship's page.
Rough cost, three ways
Never trust a cabin fare you read in an article; fares change daily. Use MSC's booking page for your sailing: https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise/ships/msc-world-europa.

Entry and document rules
US citizens need a valid passport for Spain, France, Italy and Malta; your entry rules for your nationality, including Schengen requirements, are Not confirmed on https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html as of 2026-10-16; check the country pages there and your booking documents. Carry the passport the ship records at check-in and confirm with MSC before you sail.
Three free things, each a photo subject
- Stroll Barcelona's waterfront by the Columbus Monument (photo: the column and port from the Rambla del Mar side).
- Walk Marseille's Vieux-Port quay (photo: the old harbour with boats in morning light).
- Gaze across Valletta's Grand Harbour from Upper Barrakka Gardens (photo: the harbour from the gardens).
How to use this guide
This is a ship guide, not a sailing guide, so it explains how to read what MSC publishes and what to ask. Read the ship pages first, then choose the week. The cabin and package chapters tell you what to compare, the day-by-day chapter shows what a Western Mediterranean week from Barcelona can look like, and the cost sheet gives you blanks to fill from MSC's own booking page. Because a cruise ship this size changes its schedules, treat every time here as typical and every price as a blank until you have checked the official page for your sailing. Join MSC Voyagers Club before you book so your sailing counts toward a tier, and keep one rest day in the week for sea-day recovery. Before you pay, write down three numbers: your fare, your service charge, and your total for flights and the Barcelona nights. If you cannot fill those three blanks from official pages, you are not ready to book. Last, note that the ship on your booking may be World Europa, World Asia or another vessel entirely; this guide ties no ship to any day.
