At a glance

  • Terminal: the Cruise Maryland Terminal, 2001 East McComas Street, Baltimore, MD 21230 .
  • On-site parking is listed at $25 per day per vehicle, effective April 1, 2026 .
  • Lines tied to the terminal on the port's page: Carnival's Pride and Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas .
  • Typical shape: 7 nights, two sea days south, Port Canaveral, Nassau, a private island, one sea day north. Representative, not a published sailing.
  • Variant: 8 to 9 nights with San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk or Amber Cove. Representative, not a published sailing.
  • Bahamas advisory: Level 2, issued 2026-07-28 [read 2026-10-16, https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/the-bahamas-travel-advisory.html — Level 2, issued 2026-07-28].
  • Fly in: BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, 7050 Friendship Rd, Baltimore, MD 21240, with light rail, taxi, rideshare and an Amtrak BWI shuttle listed .
  • The one thing most guests get wrong: booking a same-day flight home. Arrive the day before and book flights home for the afternoon or later.

Who this is for

First-time cruisers on the East Coast who would rather drive or take a short flight than fly to Florida. Families who want a private-island day. Travelers who like a long cruise-ship stretch at sea. It is not for anyone who wants five port days in a week: two sea days south and one north are the price of sailing from Baltimore.

The route in 300 words

A representative week, labelled "representative, not a published sailing": you board in Baltimore, spend two days at sea heading south, call at Port Canaveral on day 4, Nassau on day 5, a private island on day 6, spend day 7 at sea and return to Baltimore on day 8. The ship on your booking, and the exact order and ports, come from your itinerary.

Carnival lists Carnival Pride (and Carnival Miracle) on its Baltimore page, with destinations "like Bermuda, The Bahamas and the Caribbean" . The port's own page names Carnival's Pride and Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas . The Royal Caribbean Baltimore page lists no ships as of 2026-10-16 ; Vision of the Seas is tied to Baltimore only on https://cruise.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspx, so confirm in your booking.

Port Canaveral gives you Orlando-area day options, such as Kennedy Space Center at Merritt Island (hours "9 AM to 5 PM" on the page's header; check the hours page) . Nassau is a Bahamas capital port with a Level 2 advisory. The private-island day is Celebration Key on Carnival, on the south side of Grand Bahama , or Perfect Day at CocoCay on Royal Caribbean , as each line's page describes.

The 8 to 9-night Eastern Caribbean variant swaps Port Canaveral and Nassau for San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk or Amber Cove, with more sea time. Whether the 2024 Key Bridge collapse affects a particular sailing is something to check with the port's page above; it has been commonly reported as a context for Baltimore sailings. Channel status: Not confirmed on https://cruise.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspx as of 2026-10-16.

Rough cost, three ways

Entry and documents

U.S. citizens on a closed-loop cruise (start and end in the same U.S. port) are commonly allowed to use a birth certificate and photo ID, but a passport is the safer document, especially if you must fly home from an island; the closed-loop rule is Not confirmed on https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/western-hemisphere-travel-initiative as of 2026-10-16. Non-U.S. citizens: check your visa needs with the line.

Three free things (each with a photo subject)

  1. Inner Harbor waterfront promenade at dusk (photo subject: Inner Harbor promenade, Baltimore).
  2. The skyline from Federal Hill Park (photo subject: Federal Hill Park skyline view).
  3. Fells Point waterfront and cobblestone Thames Street (photo subject: Fells Point waterfront).

How the week feels

Expect the first two days to feel like a floating resort rather than a trip: you will board with everyone else, learn the ship, and watch the coastline fall away. Most of the real port time is packed into days 4 to 6, so decide early what each of those three days is for. Port Canaveral typically needs the most planning because the sights are inland, Nassau is a town day, and the private island is a beach day, so many travelers spend energy on the first, wander on the second and relax on the third. Sea day 7 is for packing and a last look at the water.

Before you book

Compare the same week on both lines' pages, then match your dates to a flight into BWI the day before. Ask yourself three questions. Do you want a private island that is an adult-and-family beach day, as the Carnival page describes, or a waterpark-style day, as the Royal Caribbean page describes? Do you want to see Kennedy Space Center on the Port Canaveral day? Can you accept a smaller number of ports for a lower travel cost to the pier? If the answers are yes, a Baltimore departure is a good fit.

Safety line

The Bahamas is at Level 2, "Exercise increased caution," due to crime, with most violent crime in Nassau and Freeport, plus warnings about unlicensed boat operators and jet skis [read 2026-10-16, https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/the-bahamas-travel-advisory.html — Level 2, issued 2026-07-28]. If you take the Amber Cove variant, the Dominican Republic is Level 2 [read 2026-10-16, https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/dominican-republic-travel-advisory.html — Level 2, issued 2025-06-12]. Book ship-organized or licensed tours, skip jet skis.
