At a glance

  • Four ships: Mozart (Danube), Ravel (Rhône and Saône), Debussy (Rhine) and Mahler (Rhine and Danube) .
  • Every guest gets butler service, per the line's home page .
  • Gratuities are included in the package; extra tips for exceptional service go to the Reception desk .
  • Optional "RIVERSIDE CHOICE" shore excursions sit in an Excursion Package; some have limited capacity, so prebook .
  • High or low water can change an itinerary; the line says it will try to limit the effect .
  • Sample week used in this guide: Budapest to Nuremberg, 7 nights, Mahler or Debussy depending on date .
  • The US deposit is 10% per person per trip, and it is non-refundable under the terms dated 2026-06-12 .
  • The one thing first-timers get wrong: assuming a river ship docks in the town centre. Check each dock on the day's program.

Who this is for

Travellers who want a small ship, suites rather than cabins, and a line that folds tips and an excursion package into one price. It is a poor fit if you want a pool-deck party, kids' clubs or a low headline fare. If you like the shape of a river week but are price-sensitive, compare the line's inclusions against a mainstream river brand before booking.

Rough cost, three ways

Fill the blanks from the line's fare page (riverside-cruises.com/en/routen) for your own sailing; we do not quote suite prices because they change daily.

Three free things

  1. Walk Budapest's riverfront near Fishermen's Bastion. The route page names the Bastion among the Budapest highlights . Photo: Fishermen's Bastion, Budapest
  2. Stroll Passau's old town to St. Stephen's Cathedral. The route page lists the cathedral for Passau . Photo: St. Stephen's Cathedral, Passau
  3. Watch the Wachau Valley from the ship. The route page lists a Wachau Valley sail on day 4 . Photo: Wachau Valley from the Danube

How to pay with points

The line is not a points currency, so the play is the card travel portals. Search Chase, Capital One or Amex Travel for cruise or river-cruise inventory and compare with the line's own fare; portals may not carry this line at all. Where a portal does list it, check the redemption rate against a straight cash booking. Use transfer partners for the flight to Budapest or Nuremberg, not for the cruise. Chase to Flying Blue is 1:1 and Capital One to Aeroplan is 1:1 (from PerkJolt's verified transfer chart, checked 2026-10-08; confirm on the program's transfer page before moving points). Card cruise credits vary by card and card year, so read your current benefits page rather than trust any number here.

What the week looks like

The sample sailing is seven nights from Budapest to Nuremberg, with ports in Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany . The route page lists Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, a Dürnstein, Wachau Valley and Melk day, Aschach and Passau, Regensburg and Kelheim, then Nürnberg . It is a port-heavy week, so the ship works as a base.

What you will not find in this guide

We do not quote suite prices, drink-package prices or Wi-Fi rates, because the line's pages do not publish them as of 2026-10-16 and fares change daily. Where a number is missing you will see a blank to fill from your own quote. We also do not claim ship capacity, year built or deck counts, since the ship pages do not list them .

Three planning moves that save the most grief

  1. Fly in a day early. The route starts in Budapest on day 1 , and a flight delay on boarding day costs you the first port.
  2. Read the terms before the deposit. The deposit is non-refundable under the US terms .
  3. Prebook the tours that cap numbers. The FAQ says some excursions have limited capacity .

How to read the fares

Open the route page for your itinerary and note the ship, the sailing date and the "from" price the page shows per person . That headline figure is a starting point; your suite, the Excursion Package and flights sit on top of it. Write the three numbers on one line, then compare against a cash booking of the same week on another river brand before you commit. Keep a note of the date you checked, because fares move.

Why this itinerary

Seven nights is long enough to see four countries without feeling rushed, and the Danube between Budapest and Passau is the main stretch of the line's Danube programme, since the Mozart's own short sailings run between Vienna and Passau . If you only have four nights, Danube River Dance (Vienna to Passau) is the shorter option the home page lists . If you have three, Wachau Valley Wonderland runs the other way, Passau to Vienna .

Questions people ask first

Are tips included? Yes, gratuities are in the package, with extra tips for exceptional service handled at Reception . Can the route change? Yes; high or low water may affect it . Is there a butler? The line says every guest enjoys butler service . Which ship is on my date? The route page assigns Mahler or Debussy by date .

Good to know before you go

River levels, itineraries, excursion lists and policies move. Everything here was checked on 2026-10-16 against the line's own pages; confirm on riverside-cruises.com or in your booking before you pay or sail.
