American Airlines Plans More Premium Seats on Narrowbodies and Seatback Screens From 2028

American Airlines' third-quarter results, posted Oct. 22, include a handful of product plans that affect how flyers will experience the airline over the next few years. The release is an earnings document, so details are thin, but the direction is clear.
Premium cabins
Premium products account for roughly half of ticket revenue on about 30% of seats today. A narrowbody retrofit program is expected to raise the premium share of narrowbody seats to 40% "in the coming years" (checked Oct 23, 2026). No aircraft types, timelines or routes are given.
Screens and Wi-Fi
Seatback entertainment is expanding to the narrowbody fleet, with screens on new deliveries starting in 2028. Starlink Wi-Fi, first announced for more than 500 aircraft in May, was expanded on Oct. 8 to the entire mainline fleet, more than 1,000 aircraft .
AAdvantage and airports
AAdvantage enrollments rose 27.4% year over year in the quarter. American also says more lounges are opening or being renovated than at any point in company history, without naming locations. At Dallas Fort Worth, the rebank reduced misconnections and mishandled bags, and Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia and Phoenix are getting schedules designed for local customers .
Growth slows
Fourth-quarter capacity is guided up 5.5% to 6.5%, but 2027 network growth is expected to slow from 2026 levels because of high fuel prices . That suggests fewer new routes next year.
Timing for all of these items is open-ended; as of Oct 23, 2026; confirm on https://news.aa.com before planning around any of them.
