Which Lisbon hotels have a view?

Short answer: For a rooftop panorama, look at Memmo Alfama. For river views from your own balcony, look at Hyatt Regency Lisbon in Belém. For a hilltop grand hotel overlooking a park, the castle and the Tagus, look at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon. Lisbon Marriott is a points-friendly option with balconies and higher floors. The room you book matters as much as the hotel.

The details

Memmo Alfama (Alfama): the rooftop view. The hotel is a restored 19th-century building with 42 rooms . The Michelin Guide notes that some rooms look into interior courtyards, others over the river, and others over the city's rooftops. Rooms under the mansard roof have no view to speak of. The fix is the roof: the terrace and infinity pool take in an extraordinary panorama . So if you can't get a river-view room, you still get the view from the rooftop. Check the hotel's own site for pool and bar hours, which vary by season.

Hyatt Regency Lisbon (Belém): the river balcony. The address is Rua da Junqueira, 65, and some rooms have a balcony with views over the Tagus River . The Standard River View room is 29 square meters, with one queen bed and a balcony . Hyatt also lists suites with "Bridge View" in the room name. Guests have access to a rooftop bar and lounge . Belém is a five-minute drive from downtown Lisbon per the hotel, so you trade a central address for the water.

Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon: the hilltop view. The hotel has 282 rooms and suites, and many open onto private terraces overlooking Eduardo VII Park, Old Lisbon and the Tagus River . The hotel describes a hilltop setting in front of the park, with views of Old Lisbon, St George's Castle and the Tagus River . Room names on the hotel's photo page include Park-View categories, such as the Deluxe Park-View Room . This is a luxury, cash-rate property. Check the Four Seasons site for current rates.

Lisbon Marriott Hotel: the points-friendly high floor. Marriott says all rooms have private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows with scenic city views . Its overview says higher floors and suites offer open views across Lisbon . Treat the view as a "higher floor" request, not a promise of the river.

Tips

  • Book the room type, not just the hotel. At Memmo Alfama, the Michelin Guide says views differ by room, from river to courtyard to none. At Hyatt Regency Lisbon, "River View" and "Bridge View" are separate room names.
  • Ask for a high floor in writing. Hotels treat view and floor requests as preferences, not guarantees. Reconfirm a few days before arrival.
  • Check the rooftop's access rules. Rooftop bars can be closed for private events or seasonally. Look at each hotel's official page before planning a sunset drink.
  • Use points where they fit. Hyatt Regency and Marriott are both bookable with hotel points. Our transfer partners chart shows Chase→Hyatt at 4:3, Bilt→Hyatt at 1:1, and Chase, Amex or Bilt→Marriott at 1:1. Four Seasons isn't on that chart, so plan on cash.
  • Compare cash and points rates. View rooms and suites can cost more points than standard rooms, so price both before you transfer.

FAQ

Which Lisbon hotel has the best rooftop view?

Memmo Alfama is a strong pick. The Michelin Guide says its terrace and infinity pool take in an extraordinary panorama, and that applies to every guest, whatever room they have. For a rooftop bar with a river outlook in Belém, Hyatt Regency Lisbon lists one for guests.

Do I need a river-view room to get a Tagus view?

Not always. Memmo Alfama's rooftop gives river and rooftop views even from rooms without them. At Hyatt Regency Lisbon, though, the river view comes from a balcony in specific room categories. Check the room name before you book.

Is the Four Seasons Ritz view of the river or the park?

Both, depending on the room. The hotel says many rooms open onto private terraces overlooking Eduardo VII Park, Old Lisbon and the Tagus. Its room names include Park-View categories. If the river or castle matters most, ask which rooms face that way.
