Can I use points for a Waikiki hotel on Oahu?
Short answer: Yes. Waikiki has award-bookable hotels in the Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy programs, and in other chains too. Your best choice depends on which points you hold and on whether the hotel charges a resort fee on award nights.
The details
- Hyatt. Hyatt lists two Waikiki hotels: Hyatt Centric Waikīkī Beach in the heart of Waikīkī, and Hyatt Regency Waikīkī Beach Resort & Spa, steps from the sand (checked Oct 12, 2026). Both are bookable with World of Hyatt points. Hyatt's Waikiki hotels have typically been among the cheapest Waikiki award nights. Hyatt changed its award pricing in 2026, so figures in older articles may be stale. Check the live price on hyatt.com.
- Hilton. The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort has its own Hilton page with Honors member offers (checked Oct 12, 2026). Hilton also has other Waikiki hotels, including Hilton Waikiki Beach, DoubleTree Alana, Hilton Garden Inn and Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk. Hilton award prices move with demand, and standard rooms often run well above 50,000 points a night. That is an estimate. Hilton has also typically given a fifth night free on award stays of five nights or more. Confirm that on hilton.com.
- Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott has a cluster of Waikiki hotels. One is the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, at 2365 Kalākaua Avenue, Honolulu (checked Oct 12, 2026). Its official page says the three wings and the Historic Lobby have all been fully renovated and are welcoming guests (checked Oct 12, 2026). Marriott's own page names three sister resorts nearby: Sheraton Waikiki, The Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. Guests of the Moana Surfrider can eat or drink at those resorts and charge the bill to their room (checked Oct 12, 2026). Marriott prices award nights dynamically, so the cost changes by date.
- Resort fees. Waikiki hotels often add a daily resort fee on top of the room rate. Historically, Hilton and Hyatt have waived it on award stays, and Marriott generally has not. Policies change and vary by property. Look for the fee line on the final booking screen before you confirm, and ask the hotel if it isn't clear. Parking is a separate daily charge at most Waikiki hotels.
- Getting points. Many travelers move credit card points into hotel programs. See our transfer partners guide for the full list. The ratios we track:
- Chase to Hyatt is 4:3.
- Chase to Marriott is 1:1, and Chase to IHG is 1:1.
- Amex to Marriott is 1:1.
- Amex to Hilton is 1:2.
- Bilt to Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott and IHG is 1:1 each.
Tips
- Search award availability on the hotel brand's own site. Big hotels, such as the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, tend to have more award rooms than small ones.
- Try shifting your dates by a day or two, or changing your length of stay. Award calendars in Waikiki can be patchy.
- Compare points against cash on the same dates. In slow weeks, a cheap cash rate can beat an expensive award night.
- Count the extras before you decide. Add the resort fee (if charged) and parking to the cash price you are comparing against.
- Book a cancelable award rate, then check back for better dates. Confirm each hotel's cancellation rules when you book.
FAQ
Which program is usually best for Waikiki?
Hyatt is usually the strongest on points per night, and it has typically waived resort fees on award stays. Hilton works well if you hold Hilton points or want a big resort with a beach. Marriott gives you the most hotel choices. Compare live prices across all three for your dates.
Do I pay resort fees on an award night?
It depends on the brand and the hotel. Hilton and Hyatt have typically waived them on award stays, while Marriott generally has not. Policies change. The final booking screen should show any fee before you confirm, and the hotel's own page is the place to check.
Can I transfer credit card points to Waikiki hotels?
Yes, through the programs above. Chase, Amex and Bilt all have hotel transfer partners at the ratios listed in the details section. Check the ratio and any transfer delay before you move points. Transfers can't be reversed, so confirm award space first.
