Where can I store luggage in Lisbon?
Short answer: You can use airport lockers, train-station lockers or shop-based storage near the center. Which one is best depends on where your bags are starting and ending the day. If you're staying in a hotel or apartment, ask there first. Many will hold bags on check-out day, though policies vary.
The details
1. Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado).
- ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal operates a locker system at the airport. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- The rental period ends when you enter your access code to collect your items. Keep the receipt or code safe until then. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- Luggage left for more than 72 hours counts as misuse. You then pay for the storage period up to 72 hours, plus an extra €21 ≈ $24 per day, capped at €378 ≈ $426. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- The rules say perishable goods aren't allowed. After 90 days, ANA may destroy abandoned items. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- We couldn't confirm the standard locker rates or which terminal the lockers are in. For the airport's baggage services, email lisbon.airport@ana.pt or call +351 218 413 500. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
2. Train stations.
- CP, Portugal's national railway, has listed automatic lockers at several Lisbon stations. Last we checked, these were Cais do Sodré, Entrecampos, Oriente, Santa Apolónia, Rossio and Sete Rios. Station coverage and prices can change, so check cp.pt.
- At Santa Apolónia, there are two blocks of lockers. One is in the main hall opposite the ticket office. The other is behind platform 3. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- At Santa Apolónia, payment is by coin. You pay for the first hour up front and the rest when you collect. Carry spare coins. (checked Oct 12, 2026)
- Lockers are typically available only while the station is open to the public. They are poor for oversized bags because they come in fixed sizes.
3. Shop-based storage.
- Apps such as Stasher and Nannybag list shops, hotels and cafés across central Lisbon that hold bags for a daily fee. Both listed locations near Santa Apolónia in our searches.
- Rates and opening hours are set by each business and the app. Read the listing for size limits and the last drop-off time before you book.
Tips
- Match the storage to your route. If you're flying out of Lisbon late, drop bags near your last stop. Picking a spot near a Metro station saves a lugging leg.
- Ask your accommodation first. Hotels and apartment hosts often hold bags before check-in and after check-out, sometimes free. Confirm by email beforehand.
- Bring coins for older lockers. Don't count on a card reader at station lockers.
- Remove valuables and passports. Keep medication, electronics, documents and anything fragile with you.
- Mind the hills. Alfama, Bairro Alto and Graça are steep and cobbled. Storing a big suitcase near a flat stretch like Baixa makes the walk easier.
FAQ
Is there luggage storage at Lisbon Airport?
Yes. ANA operates a locker system at Humberto Delgado Airport. The published rules treat anything left beyond 72 hours as misuse, with extra daily charges after that. (checked Oct 12, 2026) For locker location and rates, check the airport's baggage services page or contact ANA.
Does Santa Apolónia station have lockers?
Yes. A well-known rail guide describes two locker blocks there, one in the main hall and one behind platform 3, and says they take coins. (checked Oct 12, 2026) We couldn't confirm current prices, so check on arrival or on cp.pt.
Can I leave my bag at my hotel after check-out?
Often, yes, but it's the hotel's discretion. Ask when you book or by email before arrival, and find out when the front desk is staffed. If a hotel says no, use station lockers or a shop-based storage app near your route.
