Cruise parking in one minute

Most big US homeports let you drive up and park within a short walk or a free shuttle ride of the ship. The real differences are how the port charges (flat per day, hourly with a daily cap, or by the length of your cruise), whether you can reserve ahead, whether cash or debit works, and how tall your vehicle is. Those four things decide whether you sail stress-free or spend your first morning on hold with a parking office.

At a glance

  • Port-run parking is the default. Port Canaveral, PortMiami, Port Everglades, Jacksonville, Galveston, New Orleans, Seattle and Los Angeles all have parking at or next to the terminals, run by the port or its operator.
  • Rates we confirmed on official pages (2026-10-21): Port Canaveral $20.00 a day plus tax; Jacksonville $17 a day with tax included; Port Everglades capped at $25 a day; PortMiami $10 to $35 a day depending on the garage and how long you stay; Seattle from $27 (Pier 91) and $33 (Pier 66) a day; Los Angeles capped at $23 a day.
  • Reservations differ. Port Canaveral and Port Everglades say they do not take parking reservations. Galveston and New Orleans let you reserve. Tampa sells prepaid passes online. San Diego's port does not run cruise parking at all.
  • Payment gotchas. PortMiami does not take debit cards. Port Canaveral does not take cash. Galveston does not take cash.
  • Height matters. Several garages have 7-foot clearance. Trucks, vans with roof boxes and RVs need the oversized lot or a call ahead.
  • Arrive in the window. Port Canaveral parking opens at 10 AM on embarkation day per its page; cruise lines set their own boarding windows.
  • The thing most drivers get wrong: assuming the port page rate is the whole bill. Tax, convenience fees and how days are counted can change the total, so do the math for your dates.

3 free things

  1. A free phone call that saves a bad day. Port Canaveral says rates may change without notice and tells drivers to confirm by calling 321-783-7831 . Port Everglades lists 954-468-3680 for parking questions . Call the week you sail.
  2. Free shuttle where the port provides one. PortMiami runs a free shuttle on cruise days only . Port Everglades runs a shuttle between Terminal 29 and the Palm Garage . Use them instead of paying for a rideshare.
  3. Free parking for qualifying disabled veterans and equipped vehicles at several ports. PortMiami and Port Canaveral list exemptions for vehicles with certain equipment or a Florida disabled veteran plate or Florida Toll Exemption permit. Read the exact rules on the port page before you count on it; Port Canaveral says its agents will not waive fees for other reasons.

Rough cost, three ways

  • Budget: Park at the cheapest port-run option and skip the rideshare. Do the math as days times the daily rate, then add tax and any convenience fee.
  • Middle: Park at the port garage next to your terminal and use the port or cruise line shuttle where offered.
  • Comfort: Pay for covered or valet parking where offered (Tampa lists a $20 valet upgrade fee, and does not say if that is per day), or use a cruise-line transfer from the airport and skip driving entirely.

Before you go

Print your parking confirmation if you reserved, carry a real credit card (not debit) for ports that refuse debit, and measure your vehicle against the garage clearance. Then open the full guide for port-by-port rules, the cost sheet with blanks for your dates, and the printable one-pager.

Five questions to answer before you drive

  1. Which terminal and which lot does my cruise line assign me? The port page names lots by terminal, but your booking confirmation is the final word.
  2. How tall and how long is my vehicle, with the roof box and bike rack on? Garage clearance is often 7 feet.
  3. How many calendar days will I be charged for? Some ports count the arrival and departure days; do the arithmetic for your dates.
  4. What payment will the garage accept? Credit card is the safest bet; several ports refuse cash, debit or both.
  5. What is my plan if the lot is full or my flight home runs late? Know the port phone number and the nearest alternative.

Good to know before you go

We checked the port pages named below on 2026-10-21. Parking rates, garage rules and shuttle schedules move without much warning, and some ports change them with no notice at all, so confirm rates, hours and rules on the port's official page (and its official Facebook or X account for same-day closures) before you book or drive.
