Margaritaville at Sea: The Insider’s Guide to Short Cruises from Florida (2026)
At a glance
- The line: casual, Jimmy Buffett-themed, aimed at short and budget-friendly getaways rather than big-ship spectacle.
- Fleet (as of 2026-10-12): the line's site now names three ships: Paradise, Islander, and a newer ship, Beachcomber, shown for PortMiami and Galveston in 2027 .
- Homeports named: Port of Palm Beach (Paradise, to Key West and the Bahamas) and Tampa (7-night listings to the Western Caribbean and Mexico) .
- Gratuities: added automatically, $22.00 per person per night in staterooms and $25.00 in suites, as stated on the line's FAQ .
- Final payment on 2-5 night cruises: 76 days before sailing .
- Most-missed thing: the name on your booking must match your travel document exactly, and late arrivals at the port are treated as no-shows.
When to go
Short Florida sailings run year-round. Summer and early fall are hot and carry hurricane-season risk (the Atlantic season officially runs June 1 to November 30); winter and spring are drier but usually pricier. Check the line's sailing calendar for the actual schedule.

Who it suits
Friends' trips, first-timers who want a trial run, and anyone who values a relaxed, beachy mood over big production shows. Less suited to people who want a huge ship, many specialty restaurants, or a formal feel.
Three free things
- Read the cancellation table before you book. The line's published schedule makes a 2-5 night cruise cancellable with no charge for the cruise fare itself (apart from any nonrefundable deposit) until 76 days out, then penalties begin at 75 days and climb . - Check whether you qualify for the Heroes offer. Eligible U.S. military, first responders, educators, medical personnel and government employees verified through GOVX may find a free Interior cabin for the first two guests on select dates, taxes and fees extra . - Pre-buy Wi-Fi only if you need it. The line sells voyage-long Wi-Fi packages before sailing at a pre-cruise discount, plus hourly and daily options on board . Photo subject: Key West harbor at sunset.
The rules that cost people money
Short cruises feel cheap until the extras land. Three rules do most of the damage, and all three are stated on the line's own pages.
Gratuities are automatic. The FAQ says they are added to your stateroom account at $22.00 per person per night for staterooms and $25.00 for Suites . For two people on three nights that is $132.00 before a single drink. Rates are a usual pattern and can change, so confirm in your booking.
Final payment comes early. For 2-5 night sailings the line lists final payment at 76 days before departure; miss it and the booking is cancelled with a loss of the greater of 50% of fare paid or the full standard deposit . Put the date in your calendar the day you book.
Cancellation steps up fast. On a 2-5 night cruise the table shows no charge (apart from nonrefundable deposits) from 120 to 76 days out, then a rising share of the cruise price starting at 75 days, reaching 100% inside 30 days . Promotional fares can carry their own terms, so read the fare rules at checkout.
Homeports in one paragraph
Paradise sails from the Port of Palm Beach to Key West and The Bahamas, per the line's ship page. Tampa is listed for 7-night Western Caribbean and Mexico sailings. Port Tampa Bay's cruise terminals sit at 1101 Channelside Drive, Tampa , and the port invites you to reserve parking online for your cruise dates. For Palm Beach, the port's own cruise page is the place to confirm terminal and parking details; the page we opened did not show them. Foreign ports: for Mexico (including Cozumel) the State Department's Mexico advisory we could open was dated September 6, 2024, and put Quintana Roo at Exercise Increased Caution ; the Bahamas page would not open, so check travel.state.gov yourself before you go.
Points in one paragraph
Cruise fares themselves are rarely a points purchase, but the trip around them is. Use airline transfers for flights to PBI or TPA (for example, Chase, Citi, Capital One and Bilt points all move 1:1 to several airline programs, per our chart checked 2026-10-08), and hotel programs for the night before. If the flight is cheap in cash, keep the points. Full playbook in the full guide and in cruising on points.
Honest negatives
Ship pages are thin on specs, a casino is part of the product, and promotions rarely cover taxes, fees or gratuities. If you want a big ship with many restaurants, this is the wrong line.
How to read a "from" price
The line's site shows headline "from" prices on its home page, without saying whether they are per person or what is included . Fares change daily, so we quote none; check the line's booking page. Open the booking page for your exact dates, choose your category, and write down fare, taxes and fees separately. Then add gratuities yourself. That total, not the headline, is what you compare against other short cruises.
A five-step check before you pay
- Pick the homeport that matches an airport or drive you already like, then look at the sailing calendar for that port only.
- Price your exact dates on the official booking page and write fare, taxes and fees on separate lines.
- Add gratuities yourself using the stateroom rate stamped above, and confirm it in your booking.
- Put the final-payment date in your calendar the day you book, and read the cancellation table once more.
- Check that every guest's name matches their travel document exactly, and decide on a passport rather than relying on closed-loop rules.
What's not worth it: buying packages before you have seen what you would really use. The full guide adds the ship-by-ship notes, the points playbook, two sample day-by-day plans and a printable packing list.

Good to know before you go
We checked the line's pages on 2026-10-12. Fleet, homeports, itineraries, fees and promotions move often, so confirm them on margaritavilleatsea.com or in your booking before you pay or sail. Where we could not open a page, we say so and name the page to check.
