MSC Musica-Class Ship Guide: Musica, Orchestra, Poesia and Magnifica

The promise: four mid-size MSC ships, one shared layout logic, and a short list of choices that decide whether your week feels easy or fiddly.
At-a-glance box
- Ships in this guide: MSC Musica, MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia, MSC Magnifica. They are sister ships, so the way you read one deck plan carries over to the other three.
- Where they sail (as of 2026-10-21; confirm on https://www.msccruisesusa.com/ships or in the line's app before you sail): Musica, Orchestra and Magnifica are listed for Mediterranean cruises in summer 2026 and 2027, the Canary Islands and Madeira in winter 2026, and South America in winter 2026-2027. Poesia is listed for Alaska from Seattle, the Caribbean from Miami, and the Panama Canal. (checked Oct 21, 2026) (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Included in the fare: the Main Dining Room (assigned seating), the buffet, pools and whirlpools, the gym, kids and teens clubs (ages 6 months to 17), and many theater shows. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Costs extra: specialty restaurants such as Butcher's Cut and Kaito Sushi Bar, most bars, the arcade, spa treatments and Wi-Fi.
- Bar gratuity: an automatic 15% on bar purchases on European and several other itineraries, 18% on North America itineraries. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Best for: couples and families who want a classic cruise-ship feel at a lower fare, and travelers who like a Mediterranean or Alaska route more than a giant-ship playground.
- One thing most people get wrong: treating "Musica class" as one product. The four ships have different upgrades, different Yacht Club timing and different itineraries. Read the page for your hull.
How to pick, in four lines
- Choose the route first, then the ship. Fares follow the route and the date, not the class.
- Balcony cabins on the upper decks are the sweet spot on Magnifica, which the line describes as built with almost exclusively balcony cabins. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Decide on the MSC Yacht Club early. It is a separate "ship within a ship" with its own restaurant, lounge, pool and butler service, and it is opening or being added on some of these ships on dates that differ by hull.
- Book the steakhouse and any show that needs a reservation the day you board, not the day you want to go.
Three free things worth your time
- Walk the ship at sunrise. Early morning on the open decks is quiet and free, and it is when you learn where the pools, the sports court and the walking track really are.
- Catch a Main Theater production. The line lists original nightly productions as free, though some may need a reservation. Check the daily program the evening before. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Watch the port arrival. Be on an upper open deck when the ship comes in. Mediterranean and Alaska arrivals are the best free show on the itinerary.
Costs you can plan now
The only firm fee figures we verified are the bar gratuity percentages above. Package prices (drinks, Wi-Fi, specialty dining) change by sailing and by when you buy, so the cost sheet in the full guide gives you blanks to fill from the line's page or your booking. Never rely on a number you saw once in an ad.
Points in one paragraph
You cannot transfer card points straight to MSC, but you can use the big card travel portals to price a cruise as a travel purchase, and you can use transfer partners for the flight to the port. For example, Amex points move to Delta, Air Canada Aeroplan and Flying Blue at 1:1, Capital One miles move to Aeroplan and Flying Blue at 1:1, and Chase points move to United and British Airways at 1:1. The full guide has a step-by-step award search and a rule for when to pay cash instead.
Four ships, four quick reads
- MSC Musica: listed for the Mediterranean in summer 2026 and 2027, the Canary Islands and Madeira in winter 2026, and South America in winter 2026-2027. Its page names a Yacht Club with suites on Decks 12 to 15, a pool just for children, Teatro La Scala and the Main Theater, and live music in the Crystal Lounge. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- MSC Orchestra: same regions as Musica. The page says the Yacht Club is set to open in March 2027 and that the spa and gym are being refurbished, with two new specialty restaurants planned. That means the ship you sail may differ from older photos. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- MSC Poesia: the one with the North American program, including Alaska from Seattle and Miami to the Caribbean. The page lists Butcher's Cut, Kaito Sushi Bar and free shows such as Dirty Dancing in Concert. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- MSC Magnifica: described as built for longer voyages, with a 1,200-seat theater, a retractable-roof indoor pool, a renewed spa with a salt room, and 63 Yacht Club suites opening in summer 2026. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
Every itinerary above is "as of 2026-10-21; confirm on https://www.msccruisesusa.com/ships or in the line's app before you sail."
Mini-checklist before you book
- Read the exact ship page and the exact sailing's itinerary, not the class summary.
- Note whether you want a balcony (most of the upper decks) or a Yacht Club suite.
- Check the dining time options: assigned seating offers up to three fixed times, and the line says the Dine on Your Time option is limited to two newer ships. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
- Check-in online up to two days before departure and arrive within your assigned slot; check-in closes two hours before departure. (checked Oct 21, 2026)
What's not worth it (lite)
Pre-paying for every specialty meal before you know your itinerary, and buying the highest Wi-Fi tier for a week of port days. Wait until you see the daily program, then decide with real information about your own week.
