  • Promise: Know which of the four small R-class ships fits you, which cabin tier is worth it, and what to do on day one, before you pay a deposit.
  • Trip length: Varies by sailing; many Oceania voyages run well beyond a week, so check the itinerary on the line's voyage page.
  • Best months: Depends on region. Mediterranean and Northern Europe summers, Caribbean winters; confirm on the sailing's page.

At a glance

  • Oceania's fleet page lists Regatta, Insignia, Nautica and Sirena with 684 guests and 400 staff each.
  • The fleet page lists build years of 1998 (Regatta, Insignia), 1999 (Sirena) and 2000 (Nautica).
  • Insignia, Sirena and Nautica ship pages each give 30,277 tonnage and 593.7 feet.
  • The ship pages say nearly 70% of accommodations have private verandas.
  • All specialty restaurants are free of charge on every voyage and open-seating, per the Your World Included page.
  • Shipboard gratuities and Wi-Fi are listed as included for all guests.
  • Guests choose wine and beer by the glass at lunch and dinner, or a shore excursion credit.
  • Oceania describes itself as a luxury, adults-only cruise line.
  • Paying with points means card travel portals or card cruise credits; points do not transfer to the cruise line.

Why these four ships

The R-class is Oceania's small-ship group. Four ships share one basic design, so the ship you choose matters less than the cabin you choose and the itinerary you pick. At 684 guests, a ship can fit into harbors that bigger vessels pass by, and the line says its itineraries often include overnight and extended evening stays.

That is the whole appeal. You trade rides, water slides and a giant theater for a walkable ship, a dining room that does not ask you to pick a seating time, and ports that stay in your itinerary for longer. If you want a floating resort, look at a different line. If you want to wake up in a harbor and still be in it at dinner, read on.

The ships differ in small ways that matter. Sirena replaced the older Polo Grill and Toscana pairing with Tuscan Steak and Red Ginger on Deck 10, per Oceania's R-class deck plan. Insignia lists Toscana and Polo Grill as reservation-required dinners. Refurbishment years vary by source, so both years are shown with the page to confirm on.

The three decisions that matter

1. Pick the cabin tier before the ship. Oceania's Insignia stateroom page lists categories from Inside (160 sq ft) and Oceanview (143 to 165 sq ft) up through Veranda (216 sq ft) to Concierge Level Veranda (216 sq ft) and then suites. Concierge Level adds an expanded in-room menu, free laundry for up to three bags, welcome Prosecco and Aquamar Spa Terrace access. If you will use the spa terrace and want the extra service, that tier is the one to price.

2. Reserve specialty dinners early. Toscana and Polo Grill on Insignia require reservations and serve dinner only. The Your World Included page says specialty dining is included, so the cost of a reservation is only your planning. Reservation timing rules are covered in the dining chapter; confirm yours in the booking tool or app.

3. Decide cash versus points last. Cruise lines are paid through card travel portals or card cruise credits, so compare the portal's price with the line's price on the same sailing and cabin.

Three free-things-style highlights

Highlight 1: Dining is the headline freebie. Specialty restaurants are open-seating and free of charge on every voyage. That includes the two reservation-required dinners on Insignia, Toscana and Polo Grill. Pencil that saving into the cost sheet.

Highlight 2: Wi-Fi and gratuities are in the fare. The Your World Included page lists shipboard gratuities and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the ship for all guests. The Insignia life-on-board page describes login limits per guest and per cabin, so check the current Wi-Fi terms in your booking before you plan to stream.

Highlight 3: Free coffee, sodas, water and gelato. The same page lists specialty coffees, teas and sodas, still and sparkling Vero Water, cold-pressed juices, fruit smoothies and gourmet ice cream or gelato. Insignia's Baristas bar lists complimentary illy espresso drinks, pastries and finger sandwiches. Free launderettes for all guests round out the list.

What is not worth it

Skip paying extra for a high-deck cabin purely for status. The staterooms are the same size by category on the stateroom page, and the differences between decks are noise, motion and walking distance, not square footage. Skip trying to book a specific specialty restaurant for every night; with free access and open seating, one or two special evenings usually beat a rigid schedule.

Splurge vs save

  • Splurge: a Concierge Level Veranda cabin or above if you will use the spa terrace and want expanded room service.
  • Save: a standard Veranda cabin with the included package. The line's Veranda category lists a mini-bar with free sodas, Vero Water, room service and Wi-Fi.
  • Splurge: one shore excursion in a port you cannot explore yourself.
  • Save: self-guided walks in compact harbor towns, using the ship's shuttle or your own feet.

Points and booking in one paragraph

Search the same sailing on the line's site, in your card's travel portal and with a travel advisor, then compare totals including taxes and port fees. Use transferable points for flights to the embarkation port, for example Chase to United 1:1, Amex to Delta 1:1, Capital One to Aeroplan 1:1, Citi to Flying Blue 1:1 or Bilt to United 1:1. For hotels the night before, Chase to Hyatt is 4:3 (since Sept 30, 2026), Amex to Hilton is 1:2 and Citi to Choice is 1:1.5. Points do not transfer to the cruise line itself.

Who should skip these ships

If you want children's programs, large pools, or a big-ship entertainment lineup, these four are the wrong fit. The line calls itself adults-only. If you want a late-night dance floor or a large casino, the Insignia page describes a Monte Carlo-style casino on Deck 5, which is a modest room by the standard of larger ships.

Where to confirm everything

Start with the fleet page at https://www.oceaniacruises.com/ships, then the ship page for your sailing, then the booking page for your cabin. The deck plan PDF at https://www.oceaniacruises.com/Documents/Deck-Plans/20328/DeckPlans-RClass.pdf shows the layout and cabins marked obstructed or connecting.

Quick-start checklist

  1. Choose a sailing by itinerary first, ship second.
  2. Price Veranda and Concierge Level for that sailing.
  3. Open the deck plan and mark cabins near the Lounge, the Pool Deck and the stern.
  4. Check the Wi-Fi, gratuity and wine-or-excursion terms in your booking.
  5. Reserve specialty dinners as soon as your booking tool opens them.
  6. Book flights with transferable points where the chart allows.

Good to know before you go

Facts below were checked against Oceania's official ship, dining, suites and "Your World Included" pages on 2026-10-21. Package contents, gratuities, itineraries, port calls and fees can change, so confirm them on the line's official page or in your booking and the line's app before you sail.
