At a glance

  • Ship: Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships (Wonder of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas are the names in this guide's title). Royal's ship pages list the class as Oasis Class . Honest flag: As of 2026-10-17, the royalcaribbean.com Wonder of the Seas page showed no 7-night Wonder sailing from Port Canaveral and the Utopia of the Seas page listed no itineraries . Confirm the ship and ports for your dates on royalcaribbean.com. Treat the ship names as typical for the class, not a promise.
  • Route patterns: an Eastern week (CocoCay, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, often with Nassau or Puerto Plata as an alternative) and a Western week (CocoCay, Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya or Falmouth). Both are "typical patterns", not promises.
  • Airport: Orlando International (MCO). Port Canaveral is a separate drive from the airport; check a live map for current drive time on your day.
  • Island day: Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal's private island in The Bahamas, with free and paid areas .
  • Best for: first-time big-ship cruisers and families who want a private-island day plus two or three real ports.
  • Biggest mistake: treating the airport-to-pier leg as an afterthought. Book it before you fly.

<!– Check this on the official page before you book.

  • Entry and advisories: this route touches Mexico (Western pattern) and Honduras (Western pattern), where the State Department currently lists Level 3. Read the "Entry rules and advisories" section below before you pick a week.

When to go

<!– Check this on the official page before you book. Summer school holidays and spring break fill sailings and push fares up, while shoulder weeks usually cost less. We are not quoting fares: Royal's fares move daily, so use the "Find a cruise" search on royalcaribbean.com and set Departure Port to Port Canaveral and Length to 7 nights.

The route in brief

Eastern pattern. Port Canaveral, a sea day, then Perfect Day at CocoCay or Nassau, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, a sea day back, and home. St. Maarten's cruise terminal is part of the Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise & Cargo Facility and describes a walkable experience with direct access to Philipsburg .

Western pattern. Port Canaveral, CocoCay, Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya or Falmouth, a sea day, and home. Cozumel and Costa Maya are in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Roatan is in Honduras, Falmouth is in Jamaica.

You sail on an Oasis-class ship, so plan for a big ship: many venues, many reservations, and a lot of other guests getting off at the same time you do.

Why this week works. A seven-night Port Canaveral sailing keeps logistics simple: one flight in, one hotel night, one ship, and a different place most days. The trade-off is honesty about the crowd. Oasis-class ships carry a large number of guests, so popular things (the waterpark queue, the shows, the tender or pier exit) reward people who plan a day ahead. If you prefer fewer people, pick shoulder weeks and book your key reservations early.

Entry rules and advisories

<!– Check this on the official page before you book. Many U.S. citizens can sail a "closed loop" (start and end in the same U.S. port) with a government photo ID and an original or certified birth certificate, but Royal sets its own document rules and CBP sets the legal ones. Confirm both on cbp.gov (closed-loop cruise documents) and in your Royal booking before you travel. Last we checked, CBP's page would not open from our research tool, so we have not stamped those rules here.

<!– Because the Western pattern includes Honduras (Level 3) and Mexico, read the individual advisory on travel.state.gov before booking, and consider whether you want the Eastern week instead.

<!– Check your booking and the Royal "Know before you go" pages, and talk to your own doctor or a travel clinic about vaccines and medications.

Three free things (each with a photo subject)

  1. Splashaway Bay at CocoCay. Royal's page calls the free waterpark easy to find on arrival, and lists complimentary Snack Shack, Chill Grill and Skipper's Grill food . Photo subject: the Splashaway Bay waterpark at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
  2. Sail-away from the pool deck. Watching Port Canaveral's jetties and the launch pads fade behind you costs nothing. Photo subject: the Port Canaveral jetty channel at sail-away.
  3. Walk the Philipsburg boardwalk. The St. Maarten terminal describes direct access to town . Photo subject: the Philipsburg beachfront with cruise ship behind.
