The promise

Seven nights of island-hopping down and up the Lesser Antilles from a single hotel-free starting point: you fly into Barbados, step onto a ship in Bridgetown, and wake up in a different island nearly every morning. The route below is representative — confirm your sailing's ports and order. Real itineraries from Bridgetown vary by line and season, and the order of islands changes.

At a glance

  • Homeport: Bridgetown, Barbados. The port authority lists its address as Cube Blue, Prescod Boulevard, Bridgetown .
  • Airport: Grantley Adams International (BGI), run by GAIA Inc. . It sits on the south-east side of the island; the cruise pier is on the south-west edge of Bridgetown.
  • Getting to the pier: by taxi. Official taxi rates are listed on the Barbados tourism authority's "Taxi Services & Rates" page; we could not read the amounts, so agree the fare before you get in.
  • Night before: most readers do best arriving a day early. Our suggested areas are the south coast (Hastings, Rockley, St. Lawrence Gap) or the Garrison and Bridgetown side.
  • Must-book-ahead: flights (typically book as soon as your sailing is confirmed), the online customs and immigration form (before you fly), and any in-demand ship excursion on Dominica or in Grenada.
  • Biggest first-timer mistake: flying in on the same morning you sail. A single delayed flight and the ship leaves without you.
  • Advisories (as of 2026-10-17): Barbados Level 1 ; Grenada Level 2 ; St. Lucia Level 2; Dominica Level 1; Antigua and Barbuda Level 1 (those three stamped in the full guide). St. Vincent and the Grenadines could not be opened.
  • Hurricane season: June through November; read the insurance fine print before you pay.

Three free things

  1. The Carenage walk in St. George's, Grenada. A short stroll beside a horseshoe harbour lined with pastel buildings, a few minutes from where ships tie up. Photo subject: the horseshoe harbour at St. George's, Grenada, seen from the waterfront at golden hour.
  2. A swim at Carlisle Bay on embarkation morning. If your hotel is on the Bridgetown side, a morning dip before check-in costs nothing. Photo subject: the calm turquoise water of Carlisle Bay, Barbados, with a ship on the horizon.
  3. Sailing past Dominica's coast. Take a deck seat for the sail-in at Roseau: mountains rise steeply almost from the shoreline. Photo subject: the green mountain slopes above Roseau, Dominica, in early morning light.

Why this itinerary works

Barbados is a practical starting point because, by our reading of the map, the airport and the pier are on the same small island and the southern islands sit within an overnight sail of each other. That means you spend your days ashore rather than at sea. You also avoid the cold-weather gamble of a US homeport; the trade-off is that you must fly to the island, so airfare becomes the biggest variable in the budget.

Which lines sail from Bridgetown for your dates is the first thing to settle, and we could not settle it from the lines' own sites today. P&O Cruises sells flight-inclusive holidays aimed at the UK market (we could not open its fly-cruise page to see Barbados details); US readers should treat it as a reference point and confirm it is bookable from their country. The P&O Cruises home page lists flights among the things included in a holiday, but did not give Barbados details . Celebrity's Southern Caribbean page names Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Port Canaveral and San Juan as Caribbean departure ports, and shows Barbados as a port of call . The Royal Caribbean Southern Caribbean page would not load for us.

How the week runs

Day 1 is boarding in Bridgetown. Days 2 through 6 are one island per day: St. George's (Grenada), Kingstown (St. Vincent), Castries (St. Lucia), Roseau (Dominica), and St. John's (Antigua). Day 7 is a sea day while the ship returns south, and Day 8 is disembarkation in Bridgetown. That is seven nights across eight calendar days; most travellers add a night on each side on land.

Entry and safety

Barbados asks visitors to fill in an online customs and immigration form before arrival at travelform.gov.bb . The US State Department lists Barbados at Level 1, Exercise normal precautions, issued April 10, 2026 . Grenada is Level 2 (increased caution), issued January 5, 2026 . Check this on the official page before you book.

Points in one paragraph

Fly in with whichever program you hold: United via Chase or Bilt at 1:1, Delta via Amex at 1:1, British Airways Avios via Chase, Amex, or Capital One at 1:1, and American via select Citi cards at 1:1. We do not quote award prices, because we have not opened a chart for Barbados flights; look up the live price on the airline's own award search. Many cruise lines also accept card travel portals for the fare; compare the portal price with the cruise line's own price before you commit.

Who this suits

Travellers who want an island each morning and a bed at night, who do not mind flying to the departure port, and who would rather pay a little extra for a night on land than rush an embarkation. Not a fit if you want a single beach week, or if sea days are the point of a cruise for you.

Cost shape (you fill the blanks)

Cruise fare: your sailing's official fare page; Port taxes and fees: shown at checkout; Gratuities: set by the line, check the booking page; Flights: cash, or points per the chart; Night-before hotel: your chosen area; Pier taxi: agreed before riding; Excursions: line or DIY. We deliberately give no fares here, because fares depend on the sailing. Check this on the official page before you book.

Three things not worth paying for

Not worth buying a private transfer from the airport if you are staying near the south-coast taxi stands; not worth a ship excursion for a beach you can reach by a short taxi; and not worth a premium cabin deck on a seven-night itinerary where you are ashore most days.

Where to read more

The full guide covers each port in order, with a numbered stop list, photo stop, insider move, rain backup, and a half-day cut for every day, plus the embarkation chapter, points playbook, cost sheet, packing, and printable day plans.

This is the free lite guide. The full day-by-day guide, with maps, photo stops, rain plans and the points playbook, is part of PerkJolt All-Access.

Good to know before you go

We checked the facts in this guide on 2026-10-17. Fares, fees, itineraries, port calls, and policies move often, and a port can be swapped for weather, tendering, or congestion, so confirm everything on the cruise line's official page or in your booking and the line's app before you sail. This guide is a planning frame, not a booking record.
