Southwest launches a ChatGPT plugin for flight shopping

Southwest Airlines announced on October 6, 2026 that it has launched what it calls the first U.S. airline plugin in ChatGPT. Travelers can discover Southwest destinations and shop for Southwest flights inside the chat.

Southwest describes it as the first step in a phased, AI-powered booking approach built with OpenAI and Amazon Web Services. The airline says the aim is to reach customers earlier in their planning and offer a more direct path from browsing to booking options. It plans to add AI capabilities "over time" but gave no specifics or timeline.

What it does. The plugin covers destination discovery and flight shopping. Southwest points customers to Southwest.com/chatgpt to learn more.

What the release does not say.

• Whether you can complete a booking entirely inside ChatGPT or only shop there.
• Anything about Rapid Rewards, including points earning or redemption.
• Regional, device or account availability.

Because the release is silent on Rapid Rewards, check any Rapid Rewards booking on southwest.com before you pay. Compare the fare and the points price there against what the chat shows.

Check the official Southwest page for the current details on what the plugin can do.
