Where to Eat on the Amalfi Coast: Local Dishes and Six Towns

A town-by-town food companion to Amalfi Coast seafood pasta, sfusato lemons, Cetara anchovies, Minori’s ndunderi and the practical ferry and bus links between meals.

Travel guide

A plate of seafood pasta with mussels, clams and tomatoes

The Amalfi Coast is a chain of towns, not one dining district. A meal in Amalfi, an uphill dinner in Ravello and anchovy pasta in Cetara each involve different ground transport; the ferry links some harbors but does not serve Ravello. Build meals around your base and the day’s corridor, then verify the return service before making a reservation.

What to taste along the coast

Scialatielli ai frutti di mare is handmade pasta associated with Amalfi, short and thick, commonly served with seafood and a little tomato. The Campania agriculture department gives its recipe ingredients as flour, milk, eggs, basil, oil and pecorino; ask about those ingredients and seafood stock if allergies or dietary needs matter. Campania’s traditional-food record for scialatiello.

Colatura di alici di Cetara is an intensely savory amber condiment made from salted anchovies. In Cetara, look for spaghetti dressed simply with colatura, olive oil, garlic, parsley and sometimes chili; it is a fish product, not a vegetarian seasoning. The Campania region describes the local tradition, and the product has protected designation of origin status. Campania agriculture department: colatura · PDO consortium.

Sfusato Amalfitano, the fragrant elongated Amalfi lemon, appears in pasta, desserts, granita and limoncello. Try delizia al limone, a sponge and custard dessert finished with a lemon cream, or a lemon granita on a hot walk. The coast also draws on seafood, tomatoes, vegetables and cheeses from nearby upland farms; menus change with catch and season. Visit Campania’s Amalfi food guide.

’Ndunderi are Minori’s fresh ricotta gnocchi-like pasta, often served with tomato or meat sauce. It is a town specialty, rather than a dish to expect at every coast restaurant. Check the day’s menu before making Minori a special food detour.

Amalfi: scialatielli, seafood and lemon pastry

Amalfi’s compact center is the easiest place to combine a meal with the cathedral square, harbor and shops. It is a useful food stop on a Salerno–Amalfi ferry corridor or from nearby Atrani, but reserve enough time to return to your base.

La Caravella — Amalfi, Via Matteo Camera 12. The operator describes a menu rooted in local and family traditions, with fish such as pezzogna, swordfish and tuna, Amalfi lemons, tomatoes and Agerola bread. It publishes seasonal tasting menus and a lemon-focused tradition menu; these are planned, higher-budget meals, so check the current courses and price before booking. Positano: pasta and a hillside town plan

Positano’s restaurants may be uphill from the beach or ferry landing. Check the street address and return option before committing to a late meal, especially if your accommodation is in another town.

Da Vincenzo 1958 — Positano, Viale Pasitea 172. Its operator site links a current digital menu and gives the address and reservation contact. Browse its pasta, fish, meat and dessert sections for a meal that fits your appetite; confirm individual dishes, service times and booking terms directly. Ravello: a separate uphill meal

Ravello sits above the coast road. There is no ferry pier here: from Amalfi, use the current SITA Sud Scala–Ravello–Amalfi bus timetable or prearrange a road transfer. Leave a margin for the descent and the last return; do not build a dinner plan around a bus connection without checking its date and direction.

Mimì — Ravello historic center. The operator describes a seasonal menu based on local products and lists dishes including spaghetti with anchovies and yellow tomatoes and paccheri with baccalà, capers, olives and tomatoes, alongside pizza. It identifies the restaurant as being in Ravello’s historic center; use the booking link to confirm the exact address and current hours. Operator menu highlights and reservations.

Minori and Maiori: slow down on the eastern shore

Minori and Maiori lie close together east of Amalfi. In fair weather, the signed Path of the Lemons is a walking connection between them, with stairs and climbs; use the bus or ferry if the route, heat, mobility or luggage makes the walk unsuitable. The coastal ferry timetable lists both harbors on Salerno–Amalfi services, and SITA Sud operates the road corridor. Check current notices and return times before leaving your base.

Sal De Riso Pasticceria — Minori, Via Roma 80. The pastry shop’s operator lists its Minori address and promotes its delizia al limone made with Costa d’Amalfi IGP lemon. This is a practical coffee-and-dessert stop, not a substitute for checking stock or seasonal opening updates. Operator location and hours · Operator delizia al limone description.

Al Mare Bistrot — Maiori, Corso Reginna 2. Its published menu includes spaghetti with pecorino, black pepper and sfusato Amalfitano lemon; seafood dishes and a lemon dessert also appear. This contemporary menu is a good direct way to taste local citrus, but the online menu can change; check prices and availability before going. Operator menu and address.

Cetara: make the anchovy sauce the point

Cetara is a fishing town east of Amalfi and a focused outing from Salerno, Vietri, Maiori or Amalfi when the ferry schedule matches. You can also use the coastal bus corridor; do not assume a boat sails late enough to support dinner and a same-evening return. Confirm the last boat or bus before reserving.

Acqua Pazza — Cetara, Corso Garibaldi 36. The operator menu lists spaghetti with colatura di alici and explains its ingredients, and includes other anchovy and fish dishes. Its site notes seasonal closures and advises confirming opening hours directly. The same menu flags gluten and fish in the spaghetti; use the restaurant’s current allergen details and ask about cross-contact. Operator menu, allergens and address · Hours and seasonal closure notice.

One, two or three days of coast eating

One day, based in Amalfi: Keep meals in Amalfi or Atrani, walk the compact center and try scialatielli or a seafood dish. Add lemon pastry or granita. Do not combine Positano, Ravello and Cetara into one dining day: the road and uphill transfer legs turn short map distances into a tight schedule.

Two days: Use day one for your base town and one meal nearby. On day two, choose one corridor: either Positano by a confirmed 5070 bus or ferry from Amalfi, or Minori–Maiori by local ferry/bus (or the signed path on foot if suitable). Put a lemon dessert stop in Minori and a meal in the town where you finish. Check the return schedule before ordering dinner.

Three days: Give one day to Amalfi and its local dishes, one to Positano or the Minori–Maiori pair, and one to either Ravello or Cetara. For Ravello, take the SITA bus or a planned road transfer uphill from Amalfi. For Cetara, use the Salerno/Vietri–Cetara–Maiori–Minori–Amalfi ferry corridor only if the date’s operator schedule fits both ways, or use SITA. Put colatura pasta at lunch if a same-day evening return is uncertain. A fourth day makes it easier to visit both Ravello and Cetara without stacking long transfers.

Transport and booking checks

Travelmar’s 2026 timetable lists Salerno, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano connections, with some routes requiring a change in Amalfi and stops marked as date-dependent. The timetable is seasonal and can be updated; verify the exact travel date, ports and departure time on the operator’s current timetable page. Salerno’s Piazza Concordia pier is beside the train station, while Manfredi Pier has a different and more limited departure pattern. SITA Sud publishes separate coastal and Scala–Ravello–Amalfi timetables; use the one for your specific leg and date. SITA Sud current schedules.

Use ferries as a point-to-point alternative when their ports and hours fit; do not assume boats stop at Ravello or that the final sailing follows restaurant dinner hours. Coastal bus travel is subject to traffic, and crowded services may take longer than the timetable. For a late meal outside your base, arrange a taxi/driver or choose a closer restaurant. Book popular tables directly, confirm the exact town and address, and check the current menu rather than relying on an old photo.

Dietary notes

Seafood, colatura and fish stock are common in coastal pasta, and the area’s fresh pasta may include wheat, egg, milk or cheese. Lemon desserts commonly contain wheat, egg and dairy. Ask about ingredients, broth, allergens and cross-contact directly with the venue; an online menu is not a guarantee for your service date. No restaurant here is represented as able to accommodate a specific allergy or diet.

Menus, prices, hours, seasonal service and timetables can change. Reconfirm directly with the venue and transport operator before travel.
