Cabo San Lucas Food Guide: Baja Tacos, Seafood and Where to Eat

A practical first taste of Cabo San Lucas, from Baja-style fish tacos and seafood to six operator-listed restaurants around Médano Beach, the marina and downtown Centro.

Travel guide

Cabo San Lucas is easiest to eat through by neighborhood. Médano Beach and the marina suit a beach day or a boat departure; downtown Centro is better for a separate evening built around a courtyard meal or taquería. Baja-style fish and shrimp tacos are a natural starting point, while the wider Los Cabos menu includes seafood, Mexican regional cooking and international kitchens. This guide stays within Cabo San Lucas and its immediate waterfront; San José del Cabo and the resort corridor are separate outings.

What to look for on local menus

The Los Cabos tourism board describes the Baja-style fish taco as one part of the region’s food identity, with handmade tortillas and both street-side and contemporary taquería versions. Look for battered or grilled fish, shrimp tacos, ceviche and the day’s seafood, but treat “fresh catch” or “local” as the restaurant’s own description and ask what is available that day. The shoreline location does not mean every seafood item is locally landed or always in season.

Menus also show how broad Cabo’s food mix is. A breakfast may include eggs with machaca or chorizo, handmade tortillas, or seasonal fruit; dinner choices can range from tacos and enchiladas to Japanese-Mexican sushi. These dishes come from distinct culinary traditions. A Cabo restaurant serving them is one place to try that menu, not evidence that the dish originated here. Menus, prices, hours and ingredients change, so use the links below as the starting point and confirm directly before making a special trip.

Six places, grouped by where your day takes you

Las Gardenias — downtown Cabo San Lucas. The current Los Cabos restaurant-chamber directory lists Las Gardenias as a downtown taquería and provides a contact number. Its older operator website has dated and inconsistent menu details, so call to confirm the current street address, opening times and dishes before setting out. This is a casual taco stop to investigate, not a confirmed exact map pin or menu promise. Current CANIRAC directory listing and contact.

La Lupita Taco & Mezcal — El Médano. The group’s location page lists its Cabo restaurant at Acuario and Avenida del Pescador in El Médano Ejidal, with a direct reservation email and phone. The restaurant’s focus is tacos and mezcal; use its current menu link to decide whether its contemporary take on Mexican food fits your group, then contact the Cabo location about a table. This address is in the same broad beach-side area as other Médano restaurants, but check the map and your starting point rather than assuming the restaurants share an entrance or are next door. The Office on the Beach — Médano Beach. This beach restaurant’s own history says its first palapa served simple food such as ceviche, fried fish and burritos on Médano Beach. Its current site links separate breakfast, lunch, dinner and group menus and takes reservations by phone or email. Breakfast examples on the operator page include eggs with handmade tortillas, machaca, Miraflores chorizo and seafood omelets; that page is a menu snapshot, so recheck before planning around a particular dish. Beachfront tables make this a natural meal to pair with time on Médano, but allow for meal time and beach access rather than scheduling a tight boat departure immediately afterward. Baja Cantina Marina — marina waterfront. The operator describes its historic “Northeast Corner” on the Cabo marina. Confirm its current entrance with the restaurant before setting out. The operator presents it as a marina dining option. Its public menu links were unavailable when checked, so contact the restaurant for current dishes, prices and seafood availability rather than relying on a copied menu. The marina location works well before or after a harbor activity; give yourself a buffer because a sit-down meal and boat schedules are separate commitments. Nicksan Cabo — Plaza de la Danza by the marina. The operator locates this branch at Blvd. Marina Lote 10 Local 2, Plaza de la Danza, a short distance from the marina. Nicksan’s Japanese-Mexican approach makes it a different choice from the taco and beach spots: its linked menu includes sushi, sashimi, seafood preparations and dishes using local fish, alongside Japanese ingredients and techniques. The linked menu page is the source for item details and prices; confirm it remains current and ask about raw-fish or allergy concerns directly. Reserve through the restaurant if your evening has a fixed schedule. Make sure a booking is for the Cabo branch, since Nicksan also lists a Palmilla location farther along the corridor. Los Tres Gallos — Centro. The restaurant chamber’s current member listing identifies this as a traditional Mexican restaurant with an open central patio, at Leona Vicario and 20 de Noviembre in Centro. The operator site links reservations and a map; contact it to confirm the current menu, service hours and table availability. This is the downtown option in this short list, so it pairs better with an evening exploring central Cabo than with a beach-side lunch. It can be a good fit when your group wants a sit-down meal in a courtyard setting; no particular dish or price is promised here because the operator’s menu is not clearly published on its site. Make a food plan without crisscrossing town

For a beach-focused day, choose La Lupita for a taco-and-mezcal format or The Office for a beach table, and keep it flexible around swimming, boat plans and the day’s heat. Las Gardenias is listed downtown by the restaurant chamber, so check its current address and plan it as a separate taco stop. For a marina day, Baja Cantina and Nicksan are separate meal styles in the waterfront area; check the map and reserve the one that suits your group. Save Los Tres Gallos for a downtown Centro evening. These are neighborhood groupings, not walking-time claims: Cabo streets, heat, crowds and your exact hotel or pier entrance affect the trip. Confirm directions and any taxi or walking route on the day.

With one day, make lunch the anchor and leave dinner uncommitted until you know where you are after the beach or harbor. With two days, try a casual seafood or taco meal one day and a reserved sit-down dinner the other. With three days, add a breakfast outing and ask what local or seasonal seafood is currently available. If you have an allergy, dietary restriction or mobility need, contact the restaurant directly; don’t infer ingredients, cross-contact controls or step-free access from a menu or map listing.

Before you go

Check the official menu and reservation channel for the exact branch, date and party size. Confirm hours, holiday closures, payment, menu availability, allergy handling and any beach-access requirements directly with the venue. Map links above search the named address for orientation; they are not verified entrance pins or promises of an accessible route. The list is a practical selection of operator-listed examples, not a ranking, review score or report of personal visits.
