Lodging

Where to Stay in the Cayman Islands: Seven Mile Beach, North Sound or the East End

Compare three Grand Cayman lodging bases, official property options, airport arrival choices and one to three full days with the right arrival and departure nights.

Travel guide

White sand beside blue water and an open horizon

On Grand Cayman, the practical choice is often between a beach-centered Seven Mile Beach base, a North Sound property where you plan to use hotel facilities and arrange outings, or a quieter East End dive-resort stay. The official links below identify real properties and their own described locations and facilities. They are comparison starting points, not rankings, endorsements, or confirmation that rooms are available for your dates.

Seven Mile Beach: beach-centered stays

Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort describes its property as beachfront on Seven Mile Beach. Its official hotel page is a direct starting point for comparing rooms, suites and the resort’s own dining. This base may suit a trip where you want beach time close to the room and expect to spend meaningful time at the property. Ask which room categories match your party, whether the exact room has the view you expect, and what dining or beach services are included in the offer you are pricing.

Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman places itself on Seven Mile Beach at 32 Seafire Way. Its official property site describes beach access, a beach club, pool and several dining options. The hotel location makes it another Seven Mile Beach comparison, but facilities and included benefits depend on the booked offer. Confirm current restaurant service, children’s policies, breakfast terms and any beach-club access directly for your dates. If you are choosing between two properties on the same stretch, compare the exact room, cancellation terms, included meals, resort charges and your planned dinners rather than assuming the shared beach label makes them interchangeable.

For either hotel, check the actual map and property directions before booking transport. A Seven Mile Beach address does not establish that every restaurant or attraction is an easy walk, or that an evening return will suit your party. Ask the hotel about the route and transport options for the specific places you expect to visit.

North Sound: hotel facilities and arranged outings

Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman is at 278 Crighton Drive in the Crystal Harbour/North Sound area. Its official IHG page describes an all-suite, oceanfront property, with one- and two-bedroom suite categories, onsite dining and a hotel shuttle. This can be worth comparing when you want more room structure or expect to make use of the resort rather than use the beach strip as your everyday base.

Read the suite details carefully and ask the property to confirm accepted occupancy, actual bed layout, separate sleeping areas, child policies and accessibility for your exact party. “Suite” alone does not tell you whether a door separates the sleeping spaces or whether the configuration fits your needs. Confirm the current shuttle destinations, days, hours, reservation process, capacity and any charge before treating it as your transport plan. The hotel’s published shuttle information can change, and a shuttle does not guarantee a convenient return for a particular dinner or outing.

Check where the property sits relative to your own plans using its address, and price the return trip as well as the outbound ride. If your itinerary is mostly on Seven Mile Beach, George Town or elsewhere, compare the likely repeated transport costs with a property in that area. The North Sound label is geographic orientation, not a promise of an included transfer or a short journey.

East End: a dive-oriented condo resort

Compass Point Dive Resort is a Grand Cayman East End option rather than a conventional full-service hotel. Its official resort site describes condominium-style accommodation, including one-, two- and three-bedroom units with kitchens, and diving organized through the onsite Ocean Frontiers operation. Its contact page gives the property address as 346 Austin Conolly Drive. Consider it if an East End stay and diving are central to the trip, and if self-catering space is useful.

Before booking a condo, confirm what the selected unit actually contains: beds, kitchen equipment, cooling in sleeping rooms, housekeeping, laundry, meal options, taxes and required charges. Ask how dive activities are booked and what weather, certification, equipment and cancellation rules apply. Then plan grocery access, dinners and transportation. The East End is a distinct base from Seven Mile Beach; do not choose it on the assumption that repeated cross-island outings are effortless. Keep the days centered on the area or arrange the specific trips you care about before committing.

Arriving on Grand Cayman and getting around

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority identifies Owen Roberts International Airport as Grand Cayman’s airport. Its arrival ground-transportation page describes taxi dispatch at arrivals, pre-booked bus or limousine arrangements, and rental-car desks near the terminal. A prearranged vehicle needs an agreement with its provider; do not assume a hotel shuttle is an airport transfer. Before travel, send the provider your flight details, party size, luggage and mobility needs, and confirm the meeting point and what happens after a delay.

The airport’s taxi information describes the arrivals dispatch process and links a CI:GO estimator for a trip-specific quote. Use the estimator with your pickup, destination, party and luggage details rather than relying on a remembered fare. Confirm the actual charge, payment method and luggage fit with the driver or dispatch before departure. For a late arrival or a party that needs a particular vehicle, prearranging a ride may make the first evening easier.

The Public Transport Unit publishes a public bus overview and route map. The airport material does not describe a public-bus airport shuttle, so verify the precise route from your accommodation and whether it works for your arrival before relying on buses with luggage. Ask your hotel or host about the closest suitable stop, current service and the return after your planned outing. Keep a practical alternative for late dinners or a missed connection.

If you plan to rent a car, compare the complete cost including rental terms, required insurance, fuel, parking and any fees you are quoted. Confirm pickup arrangements and whether your planned driving suits your group. If you will use taxis, make a short list of the outings and dinners that require rides and include both directions in your lodging comparison. Avoid choosing a room rate without pricing how you will actually move around.

Cayman Brac and Little Cayman require separate planning

The Airports Authority lists Charles Kirkconnell International Airport on Cayman Brac and Edward Bodden Airfield on Little Cayman. Cayman Airways’ destination list includes Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, and its schedule page separates domestic schedules and warns that schedules may change. If you want to stay on either Sister Island, price and book its flight, lodging, local transfer and meals as a connected plan. Check the exact dates and connections with the airline and accommodation. Do not build a same-day Sister Island visit into a Grand Cayman plan without verifying flights, connection margins and what happens if service changes.

Compare the entire stay, not just the room

For each property, price the same dates, party and cancellation conditions. Add mandatory taxes and charges, breakfast and other meals, airport transfer, outings, evening rides, rental costs and any activity you would actually book. Confirm whether a quoted package includes meals or transfers and which people and days it covers. A kitchen can reduce some meal costs only if the unit has the equipment you need and groceries are practical for your location.

Ask each lodging provider to confirm the accepted occupancy and exact bed layout in writing, especially for children, multiple adults or separate sleeping needs. Check connecting-room availability directly instead of assuming it from a property’s room categories. Ask about crib or rollaway policies, child-age rules, accessible routes from vehicle to room and dining, noise, housekeeping and deposits. Availability, policies, menus and shuttle arrangements can change; use the current operator links for your dates before paying.

One full day: two nights at one base

Arrival day: arrive the day before your full day, transfer to the property and have dinner nearby or onsite. Day 1: keep the morning near the base, take a midday break, then choose one local beach or property activity and a dinner with a confirmed return plan. From Seven Mile Beach, make the beach the anchor; from North Sound, use the hotel facilities and arrange one outing; from East End, center the day on the resort and diving or local scenery. Departure day: leave the following morning with your airport ride arranged. Arrival night plus the night after Day 1 equals two nights.

Two full days: three nights without changing hotels

Arrival day: arrive one day before Day 1, settle in and confirm the next morning’s plan. Day 1: spend time around your base and make dinner arrangements that work from that location. Day 2: choose one contrasting outing, such as a planned trip away from the beach area or a second East End dive/local day. Confirm both the outward and return transport before leaving. Departure day: depart the morning after Day 2. The arrival night and the nights after both full days make three nights.

Three full days: four nights with room for flexibility

Arrival day: arrive before Day 1 and keep the evening simple. Day 1: enjoy the immediate area around your base. Day 2: make one wider Grand Cayman outing, with transport confirmed both ways. Day 3: revisit a favorite place or keep the day flexible for weather, rest or a property activity. For an East End stay, preserve more time for the area rather than stacking repeated long outings. Departure day: leave the morning after Day 3. The arrival night plus the nights after Days 1, 2 and 3 equals four nights. Keep one base unless a second island is the purpose of the trip and its separate flights and lodging are already arranged.
