CDG Airport to Paris: Choose the Right Route to Your Hotel
A first-timer’s route decision for getting from Charles de Gaulle Airport to a Paris hotel, with terminal wayfinding, RER B, taxi and bus choices, ticket boundaries, luggage and accessibility checks, and disruption fallbacks.

Task: get from Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to your actual hotel without choosing a route from a generic ‘Paris’ label. This guide is for a first-time visitor arriving from the United States. It assumes you have cleared border control and baggage claim. Research checked 2026-09-25; airport layouts and transport change, so use the live operator links below on your date. No firsthand travel is claimed.
First decide from the hotel address, not the airport name
Before leaving the terminal, copy the hotel’s full street address into the Île-de-France Mobilités trip planner or the Bonjour RATP planner. Set the journey for the expected departure time and compare the complete path: airport terminal to station, train or bus, transfer, exit, and walk to the hotel. ‘Central Paris’ is not one station. A hotel next to Gare du Nord may suit RER B directly; a hotel in another district may need a transfer and a long walk with bags. Check the same route again after landing, because works and disruptions can change the best choice.
Choose rail when the hotel route is straightforward, you can manage your bags through stations, and live traffic shows normal service. Choose a taxi when door-to-door access matters more than predictability, you have several bulky bags, you are traveling with someone who cannot manage station stairs, or the hotel is awkwardly placed for transit. Choose a bus only after checking the current official airport listing and exact stop against your hotel: routes and stop locations can change, and a bus can be slow in road traffic. Compare comfort and current conditions, not just a single published in-vehicle time.
Match your terminal to the correct RER station
CDG is a large airport with terminals separated by internal transport links. The airport’s official CDG public-transport page and live terminal maps are the authority for the current walk or internal shuttle from your arrival building. The airport rail connection is RER B. Its airport stops include Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1, serving the Roissypôle/Terminal 3 area, and Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV, at the Terminal 2 rail interchange. If you land at Terminal 1, follow current airport signs to the internal CDGVAL connection and the CDG 1/Roissypôle station; do not follow signs for the TGV station unless your terminal map directs you there. For Terminal 2, look for the RER B/TGV station signs appropriate to your hall. Terminal 3 travelers follow Roissypôle/RER signs. Terminal subdivisions, construction diversions, and walking paths matter; verify the live map rather than relying on a remembered gate number.
At the platform, confirm that the train is going in the Paris direction and that it serves your intended interchange. Read electronic destination boards and the platform display; do not infer direction from a train’s appearance. Keep your hotel address and station name visible offline. If your hotel is not near an RER B stop, follow the trip planner’s transfer exactly, checking which station exit minimizes the final walk. A short train ride can still become a difficult arrival if it leaves you on the wrong side of a large station with luggage.
Buy the airport-appropriate ticket before the gates
Do not assume a normal city Metro ticket covers the airport rail journey. Île-de-France Mobilités’ current airport-ticket terms and RATP’s Paris Airport ticket guidance define the product and permitted airport services. The ordinary Metro-Train-RER ticket terms exclude entry or exit at CDG airport stations; review the official Metro-Train-RER terms before relying on a ticket already loaded on your phone or card. Airport-ticket rules, existing passes, and support compatibility can be product-specific. Check your exact pass, zones, and medium in the operator’s current ticket finder before travel.
Use an official sales channel and complete purchase before entering the paid area. If you are using Navigo Easy, a phone, or a pass you already own, confirm that the airport product can be loaded on that particular support. IDFM explains ticket coexistence on one support; some combinations cannot share the same card or phone. When in doubt, ask a staffed ticket point before tapping through, or buy the airport journey on a separate compatible support. Keep the ticket or phone until you have exited. Do not follow a stranger’s offer to “help” at a machine or pass through behind another traveler.
Taxi, luggage, and accessibility decisions
If you choose a taxi, follow the airport’s signs to the marked official taxi rank for your terminal and join the queue. Do not accept an offer from someone approaching inside the arrivals hall. French government information describes regulated taxi fare and receipt rules in its official taxi information. This guide intentionally gives no fare: fixed airport fares and tariff details can be revised, so confirm the current official terms for your destination. Before the ride starts, state the hotel address, confirm the destination, and ask for a receipt if needed. Never accept a ride from someone approaching you in the terminal.
Tell the rank attendant or taxi dispatcher if you need an accessible vehicle, wheelchair space, child seat, or extra luggage capacity; request the arrangement before boarding rather than assuming the first car can take it. On rail, count luggage and transfers honestly: stairs, narrow gates, crowding, and a long station corridor may make a nominally direct route unsuitable. Check specific station accessibility with the operator and include the path between platform and street. A companion should keep bags together and leave enough room for other passengers.
If the plan breaks after you land
Check RATP’s live RER B status and the broader RATP traffic page before boarding. If service is interrupted, pause before buying another ticket. Ask staff which replacement route accepts your current ticket, and verify the replacement bus stop and terminal connection in the official airport map. If the information is unclear, compare the next available rail itinerary and an official taxi; with children, a mobility need, or a late-night arrival, the least-transfer option may be worth the added cost. Never take an unofficial ride, and do not assume a map-app route reflects a current closure.
For a practical arrival buffer, plan roughly 60–100 minutes from the public arrivals area through station access and a central-Paris rail journey, then budget additional time for the hotel approach and any border or baggage delay. This is a planning allowance, not a schedule. For taxi, road time can swing with traffic; use the live planner and allow a generous buffer. If your flight is delayed, check the final departure available for your exact date instead of trusting a printed timetable. Have the hotel address saved offline, keep a charged phone, and carry a small amount of flexibility in your first evening plan.
