Guadalajara’s hotel choice is mostly a question of where you want to spend your evenings and how often you are willing to cross the metropolitan area. The Centro Histórico suits cathedral, theater, market and museum days. Colonia Americana and Lafayette bring cafés, restaurants and cultural venues closer. Zona Minerva and Chapalita work for central-west stays, while Zona Expo is convenient for conventions and the airport’s current T03 bus. Andares in Zapopan is a polished shopping-and-dining base, but farther from the historic center. Compare the hotel’s exact address, your itinerary and your expected return route rather than choosing by a broad neighborhood label.
Choose a base around your days
- Centro Histórico: Best aligned with the cathedral, Teatro Degollado, Plaza Tapatía, Hospicio Cabañas and Mercado Libertad. The city’s neighborhood guide connects the center with Juárez station on Mi Tren Line 1. Streets can be busy and the market area is active; plan each return after dinner and ask the hotel about the best entrance for a car pickup.
- Colonia Americana and Lafayette: A good fit for independent restaurants, coffee, galleries and evening venues around Chapultepec and Avenida La Paz. Expect more neighborhood nightlife and street activity than in a convention hotel. If quiet matters, request a room away from bars or major roads and check the property’s cancellation and noise policies.
- Zona Minerva and Chapalita: Useful for an urban hotel base west of the old center, with major avenues and a mix of restaurants and business districts. It can balance central sightseeing with an evening meal nearby, though a vehicle or transit ride is likely for repeated visits to the Centro Histórico.
- Zona Expo: The practical choice when meetings or an event at Expo Guadalajara anchor the trip. SITEUR’s airport Línea 5 route T03 serves Expo Guadalajara, but a hotel’s “near Expo” label does not guarantee the same stop or a step-free walk. Confirm the actual lodging entrance and route on the current transit map.
- Andares / Puerta de Hierro, Zapopan: Choose this area for the Andares shopping and restaurant district, a higher-service hotel stay or plans centered in Zapopan. It is a separate metropolitan base from the historic center; add transfer time and cost before using points or a lower room rate to justify it.

Centro Histórico: put the main sights close
- Hotel Morales — near the cathedral and Teatro Degollado: Avenida Ramón Corona 243, Colonia Mexicaltzingo, Guadalajara, Jalisco 44100. The hotel describes itself as three blocks from the cathedral and close to central historic sights, making it a useful comparison for a walking-focused first visit. The operator offers a paid shuttle by prior reservation; airport pickup is provided through a third party. Ask the hotel to confirm current pickup arrangements, room access and the precise drop-off entrance. Official address, location and transport information · Address-search map.
- Hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara — Chapalita / López Mateos: Avenida Adolfo López Mateos Sur 830, Chapalita, Guadalajara, Jalisco 44500. RIU lists this address and describes the hotel as a city-center business-district property. It offers a full-service comparison with rooftop dining and meeting facilities, but sits west of the historic core; budget for transit or rides to the cathedral, Cabañas and market. Check live room terms and any event noise before booking. Official property and address · Address-search map.
Americana and Lafayette: restaurants and neighborhood life
- Demetria Hotel — Lafayette, Avenida La Paz: Avenida La Paz 2219, Lafayette, Guadalajara, Jalisco 44150. The property places itself in Lafayette near Avenida Chapultepec, bookstores, galleries, restaurants and historic homes. It suits travelers who would rather stay among neighborhood dining and culture than beside the main historic monuments. Its own page’s airport drive estimate is not a promise: congestion and time of day change road journeys. Confirm room details, current services, noise exposure and accessibility directly. Official location and contact details · Address-search map.
- Demetria Bungalows — Lafayette: General San Martín 177, Colonia Lafayette, Guadalajara, Jalisco. The operator page gives conflicting postal codes, so confirm the full mailing address directly. This is a separate Demetria property and address, so check that the booking page names the intended building. The operator confirms the location and reservations contact; compare its room layout and services with the main hotel before choosing it for a particular mobility or amenity need. Zona Expo and Andares: stay near a specific anchor
- AC Hotel Guadalajara Expo — López Mateos Sur: Avenida López Mateos Sur 2375, Zapopan, Jalisco 45050. Marriott says the property is about five minutes from Expo Guadalajara and lists the address and airport distance. It is a straightforward event-oriented base; for city sightseeing, check the return trip and late-evening transit before assuming the conference location also works for dinner plans. Marriott says this hotel does not provide a shuttle, and lists alternate transport that requires reservation; reconfirm directly because provider and price details can change. Official address, Expo context and transport details · Address-search map.
- Hyatt Regency Andares Guadalajara — Puerta de Hierro: Puerta de Hierro 5065, Zapopan, Jalisco 45116. Hyatt places the property beside the Andares shopping and restaurant district. Choose it for a Zapopan-centered visit, shopping, or a full-service hotel stay; for central Guadalajara’s historic sights, price the repeated cross-city rides into your decision. Confirm current booking terms, room features and transport arrangements with the hotel. Official property, location and address · Address-search map.
Arriving from Guadalajara International Airport
SITEUR’s current Línea 5 page lists three airport routes: T02 to Parque Agua Azul, with a connection toward central Guadalajara; T03 to Expo Guadalajara; and T01 via Chapalita Inn toward Estadio Akron. The page lists daily operation from 3:30 to 22:30, a fare of 11 pesos and payment by Mi Movilidad or Única card. These details can change, so check the current timetable, route map, service alerts and card rules on the travel day. Do not assume T02 drops at your hotel or that T03 serves every property marketed as “Expo area.” From the bus terminus or stop, plan the onward connection and luggage-friendly final leg.
For a late arrival, bulky bags or a step-free trip, a door-to-door ride may be simpler. GAP’s April 2026 ground-mobility notice describes authorized taxi services; follow airport signs to the official counter or pickup point, confirm the fare basis and destination before departure, and arrange any hotel shuttle directly with the property. For a rideshare, use the app’s designated pickup instructions and confirm the plate and vehicle before getting in. Check your government’s current travel guidance before departure; the U.S. Department of State tells its employees to use dispatched vehicles from regulated taxi stands or app-based services such as Uber or Cabify, and not to wave down taxis on the street. It strongly advises U.S. citizens to follow the same restrictions. Keep arrival plans flexible if your hotel requires a separate transfer or advance reservation.
Match the area to your return route
Mi Tren, the city bus network, walking and app-based trips serve different corridors; one nearby stop does not establish an easy trip to every sight. Use SITEUR’s current system map and service notices to compare your hotel with the cathedral, Hospicio Cabañas, Mercado Libertad, Tlaquepaque or Expo Guadalajara. Recheck late service after dinner, along with station access and the final walk. An address-search map is for orientation, not an exact hotel entrance, route, travel time or accessibility guarantee.
For safety and convenience, keep valuables secure, use well-lit busy routes, and arrange a recognized pickup if you are returning late or carrying luggage. The U.S. Department of State’s current advisory notes that criminal-group violence has occurred in tourist areas in Guadalajara while also stating there are no U.S. government employee travel restrictions for the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Conditions and official advice can change; check current guidance for your nationality and the local situation rather than treating any neighborhood as risk-free.
