Task: divide a short first stay into a historic-center day and a western-monuments day. Assumes two full days, central lodging, moderate walking, and one major interior visit per day. No tickets or hotel are assumed. Movement times are planning estimates, not live navigation. Checked 2026-09-25. This is planning guidance; no firsthand visits are claimed.
Day 1 — Île de la Cité and Left Bank
09:00–10:00 — Sainte-Chapelle. Start with a timed visit if a suitable slot is available. The official visitor page lists opening information, last access, ticket terms, and exceptions; arrive at the selected time and leave a security buffer. If the slot does not fit, reverse the day and begin with the Notre-Dame area.
10:15–11:00 — Notre-Dame. Walk about 8–15 minutes, depending on route and access. Entry is free; optional reservations are offered through the cathedral’s own system, which warns against paid fake tickets. Check the reservation window and access on the day. Keep time for the exterior and river approaches even if the entry line is longer than expected.
11:00–11:20 — Saint-Michel and lunch. Allow 10–20 minutes to reach the area. Then take 11:20–12:20 for lunch and a seated break, followed by 12:20–12:50 to reach the museum entrance and orient.
12:50–15:20 — One museum anchor. Musée d’Orsay is a sample choice across the river. The preceding 30-minute transfer block covers the 15–25 minute walk estimate plus finding the entrance; allow 2–2.5 hours for the focused visit. Check the official visitor page and access page. An indoor museum can suit rain, but its ticket/access conditions still need checking.
15:20–17:00 — Flexible river or coffee block. Rest or take a short riverside walk if weather and energy permit. Do not add the Louvre interior; it deserves a separate multi-hour block.
Day 2 — Tower, river and Arc
09:00–09:45 — Reach Trocadéro. Use the dated transit planner from your hotel. Allow 30–45 minutes door to door. Use 09:45–10:15 for the viewpoint and orientation, then 10:15–10:30 to walk to the Tower entrance.
10:30–13:00 — Eiffel Tower, optional ascent. Choose level and stairs/lift carefully on the official ticket site. Allow 90–150 minutes including entry/security and time above; weather may restrict summit/stair access. No ticket or short queue is guaranteed. For an outdoor-only day, use Champ de Mars and the river instead.
13:00–14:30 — Lunch and rest. Budget 45–60 minutes for lunch and another 15–30 minutes to sit, refill water, and check the next route.
14:30–15:10 — Transfer to the Arc. Plan 20–35 minutes door to door including waiting and station access, then check RATP status. The official Arc de Triomphe page shows current hours, access, and tickets. Use signed pedestrian passages; the traffic circle is not an ordinary street crossing.
15:10–16:40 — Arc or avenue choice. Allocate 60–90 minutes if entering the monument; less for an exterior-area walk. The rooftop involves stairs, so check access before choosing it. Add no more than a short Champs-Élysées stroll before dinner.
Accessible text route
Day 1: Sainte-Chapelle → Notre-Dame (walk about 8–15 min) → Place Saint-Michel (10–20 min) → Musée d’Orsay (15–25 min). Day 2: hotel → Trocadéro (live transit; budget 30–45 min) → Eiffel Tower (walk 10–20 min) → Arc (live transit; budget 20–35 min). These broad estimates include ordinary orientation time, not disruptions. Use the live route and confirm venue access. The map pins are approximate.
Shorter and rainy-day versions
For a slower pace, keep one booked interior on Day 1 and omit Orsay; on Day 2 choose the Tower or Arc interior, not both. In rain, replace outdoor walks with one confirmed indoor museum block, but retain transfer, meal, and rest buffers. For mobility constraints, check the official access pages and current step-free routing rather than assuming station proximity guarantees access.
Assumptions and freshness
Each day offers about 7–8.5 hours including meals and breaks. Transit and walking times are estimates, not route-engine outputs; actual time depends on origin, frequency, disruption, and station access. Venue time excludes exceptional queues. Checked 2026-09-25. Confirm current venue schedules and RATP service status for your travel date.
