Puerto Vallarta is a long coastal city, so choosing a hotel means choosing how much of the trip happens on foot and how much revolves around a resort. Centro and the Malecón put the historic core and waterfront promenade at the center of your stay. Zona Romántica (also called Old Town or Viejo Vallarta) adds restaurants, galleries and Los Muertos Beach. The 5 de Diciembre area sits between the Malecón and northern hotel zone, while the hotel zone and Marina Vallarta favor resort facilities, beach or marina time, and airport access. Compare the property’s exact address and your evening plans; neighborhood labels are broad and not a promise of a particular walk or transfer time.

Choose a base around your days
- Centro and the Malecón: Best for a short visit focused on the seafront promenade, central landmarks, shops and restaurants. Zona Romántica is farther south and the airport is north of town. Seafront rooms may face lively streets; ask about room orientation and noise.
- Zona Romántica / Emiliano Zapata: Suits travelers who want restaurants, galleries, cafés and Los Muertos Beach close by. It is a popular evening district, especially around Olas Altas and Basilio Badillo. Check the exact block, room location, stairs or hills on the approach, and your late-night return plan.
- 5 de Diciembre: A middle ground between the Malecón and northern beaches, with beachfront properties and city access. Check the hotel’s own beach-access details and the exact walking route to evening plans.
- Zona Hotelera / Las Glorias: Choose this corridor for larger hotels, pools and services while keeping the Malecón and Zona Romántica as separate outings. Budget for rides or local transit and check the return plan after dinner.
- Marina Vallarta: A fit for marina-side dining, golf or a resort-focused stay, with a shorter airport transfer than the southern end of the city in many cases. It is its own base; plan how often you want to travel to the Malecón and Zona Romántica. Hotel distances and transport offerings differ.
- South Shore resorts: Consider this for a stay centered on the property and its beach or spa. The drive back to central Vallarta adds a transfer to city sightseeing, so compare the full trip plan and confirm transportation with the hotel.
Six properties to compare
- Hotel Rosita — Centro / north end of the Malecón: Paseo Díaz Ordaz 901, Centro, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48300. The hotel’s official location page places it at the start of the Malecón, across from the seafront promenade, and lists the church, market and Zona Romántica as nearby with operator-reported distances. A practical comparison for a first visit built around the waterfront and historic center. The promenade location means street and evening activity may be audible; request a suitable room configuration and confirm current terms. Official location and address · Address-search map.
- Villa Premiere Boutique Hotel & Romantic Getaway — 5 de Diciembre: San Salvador 117, Colonia 5 de Diciembre, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48350. The adults-only operator describes a beachfront property with beach access and proximity to central attractions. It suits couples seeking a hotel-centered beach stay north of the old core. The property lists itself as adults-only (18+); verify room, dining, transfer and access details directly. Official address and property details · Official location FAQ · Address-search map.
- Hotel Mío Vallarta — Zona Hotelera Norte: Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio 2179-A, Zona Hotelera Norte, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48333. The operator describes it as adults-only and pet-friendly; its FAQ says it has no direct beach access and identifies Playa del Holy as approximately 1 km away. A comparison for travelers who want a contemporary hotel, not a beachfront room. Confirm pet rules, meal plans and services before booking. Official address and contact · Official FAQ and beach-access detail · Address-search map.
- Sheraton Buganvilias Puerto Vallarta — Las Glorias / hotel zone: Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio 999, Zona Hotelera Las Glorias, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48333. Marriott lists beach, pool, dining and spa facilities at this resort and gives its address. It works for a resort-oriented stay with city visits as outings. Confirm the exact room, current facilities, beach access conditions and transport options with the property. Official address and property details · Address-search map.
- Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa — Marina Vallarta: Paseo La Marina Norte 435, Marina Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48335. Marriott describes a beachfront resort near the marina, with restaurants, pools and spa. Its current notice says the hotel is scheduled to be closed for renovation July 6 through October 18, 2026, with reservations available starting October 19. Check the live booking calendar and reopening status for your dates. Official address, amenities and renovation notice · Address-search map.
- The Westin Playa Vallarta, an All-Inclusive Resort — Marina Vallarta: Paseo de la Marina Sur 205, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48354. Marriott lists this address, an all-inclusive resort format and an airport distance of 2.0 km; it says the hotel does not provide shuttle service and names an alternate company requiring reservation. How many days are you staying?
- One day: Base yourself in Centro or the northern end of Zona Romántica so the Malecón, central sights and dinner options are within the core of the trip. Choose a resort farther north or south only if the hotel itself is the main activity or you have a transfer plan.
- Two days: Centro, Zona Romántica or 5 de Diciembre can support a split between the historic waterfront and beach or restaurant time. Pick one central base rather than changing hotels; use a resort base if you are comfortable making town a planned outing.
- Three days: A central base works for a city-and-beach mix. If a pool, beach and resort dining are the main purpose, choose the hotel zone or Marina and set aside one deliberate trip to the Malecón/Zona Romántica. For a south-shore resort, confirm how you will make that outing before booking.
Arriving at Puerto Vallarta airport
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), the airport operator, lists ground-transport providers with service counters inside the terminal in the arrivals area, and shows hours of 08:00–22:00 on its ground-transport page. Check that live page for current operators and hours; do not assume the listed hours cover a late arrival. At the counter, confirm destination, vehicle type and fare before departing. Arrange a hotel transfer directly with the property and confirm pickup instructions, price and its delay procedure. Some hotels explicitly say they do not provide a shuttle.
For a local public bus or app-based pickup, verify current airport access and the precise pickup point after arrival; access rules and road layouts can change. Do not rely on an old map pin or an exact bus route copied from a third-party post. With luggage, limited mobility, children or a late arrival, a prearranged door-to-door option can simplify the first leg. Keep the hotel’s street address available in Spanish and confirm the driver is taking you to the correct property, especially where similarly named resorts operate in Puerto Vallarta and neighboring Nuevo Nayarit.
Before you book
Match the property to your priorities: location, direct beach access, adults-only rules, meal plan, pet policy, stairs or elevator, room noise, cancellation terms and arrival transport. Ask the hotel about the exact entrance and any mobility needs. Recheck the official booking calendar for renovation closures or seasonal services. A map search link is for orientation; it is not a verified entrance, exact route, travel-time or accessibility claim.
