Where to Stay in Toronto: Pick a Base for Your Visit

Compare downtown Toronto, the waterfront, Yorkville and the Annex, with six verified hotel addresses and Pearson airport-transfer guidance.

Travel guide Explore Toronto

Tree-lined Yorkville-area sidewalk with storefronts and taller buildings beyond

Toronto is a spread-out city, and the right hotel base depends on which parts of it you plan to repeat. Downtown’s City Centre groups major attractions, shopping, theatre and sports; the waterfront has a different lakeside rhythm; Yorkville and the Annex put museums, shops and the University of Toronto area in reach; Toronto’s east-end neighborhoods and the Distillery District are separate trips rather than extensions of every downtown hotel walk. Start with the day you most want to simplify, then compare the exact address, station entrance and airport route. “Downtown” is a broad label, not a door-to-door itinerary.

Choose an area by the trip you want

Downtown Yonge, the Financial District and the Entertainment District suit many first visits built around the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Ripley’s Aquarium, theatres, shopping or an event at Scotiabank Arena. Destination Toronto’s City Centre guide maps out this central cluster and identifies TTC subway connections. A hotel near Union Station can make arrival by UP Express or a rail connection straightforward, while a hotel farther north may be closer to the Eaton Centre or Church-Wellesley. Check the actual address against your evening venue: a game or show may finish after your preferred route or restaurant window.

Old Town and the Distillery District make sense for a visit centered on St. Lawrence Market, historic streets and the pedestrian-focused Distillery. The Distillery District’s official site gives its address as 55 Mill Street; provincial tourism describes it as a pedestrian-only heritage district with transit connections. Staying in this eastern pocket can make a market or Distillery visit convenient, but those addresses are not as direct for a west-end show, airport connection or Yorkville museum day. Check the streetcar or bus leg and late-night service rather than assuming the historic core sits beside Union Station.

The waterfront and South Core fit visitors who want the harbour, Harbourfront Centre, lakeside paths, ferry terminal or major sports venues in their day plan. Destination Toronto describes the waterfront as close to several downtown areas and identifies TTC streetcar links from Union Station. A lake-facing hotel may still be several blocks from the subway, and streetcar access does not remove the need to check service changes, road crossings or the last walk. If you plan a Toronto Islands day, confirm current ferry departures and terminal information with the City; island travel is an excursion with its own schedule, not a hotel shuttle.

Yorkville and the Annex are useful when your itinerary leans toward the Royal Ontario Museum, shopping around Bloor Street, the University of Toronto or neighborhoods north of downtown. Yorkville is known for designer shopping, restaurants, galleries and museums; the Annex adds campus and residential streets. These northern addresses connect to TTC subway stations, but they are not Union Station-side bases. They can be a better fit for museum and shopping days than for a waterfront-first or arena-heavy trip. Compare the number of subway transfers to your regular evening destinations.

Kensington Market, Chinatown and Queen West are worth comparing if your plans focus on food, independent shops and western downtown neighborhoods. The City of Toronto describes Kensington as a market neighborhood between Bathurst, Spadina, College and Dundas West. The accommodation options are more varied, and transit convenience depends on the specific block and route. If you select a smaller inn or rental here, verify its legal listing, exact entrance and cancellation terms directly; the hotel examples below are conventional operator-listed properties in other useful bases.

Six official hotel locations to compare

The examples are geographic reference points, not rankings, endorsements or personal stays. Addresses and location descriptions were checked on official property pages on 2026-09-27. Open the operator page and address-search map to confirm the entrance, then compare dates, room type, cancellation rules, accessibility, current facilities and your own route. No loyalty earning, redemption or status benefit is assumed.

  • Fairmont Royal York — Union Station / Financial District: 100 Front Street West, Toronto, ON M5J 1E3. The operator places Union Station across the street and says UP Express links Union with Pearson; this is a location to compare when you arrive by airport train or rail. The station complex is large, so confirm the right exit and hotel entrance with luggage. Official hotel location · Address-search map.
  • Sheraton Centre Toronto — City Centre / Queen Street: 123 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON M5H 2M9. Marriott lists it on Queen Street West in the Financial District and describes it as close to the Entertainment District and central attractions. Compare it for downtown shopping, civic-center and theatre plans; check event dates and room orientation if street or event noise matters. Official hotel and location · Address-search map.
  • Chelsea Hotel, Toronto — Downtown Yonge / City Centre: 22 Elm Street, Toronto, ON. The hotel identifies its address as Elm Street and lists Eaton Centre and Nathan Phillips Square among nearby attractions. This is a central address to compare for shopping and city-hall-area plans. The operator gives a separate garage entrance at 33 Gerrard Street West; that is for parking, not the guest hotel address. Official maps and directions · Address-search map.
  • Delta Hotels Toronto — South Core / waterfront: 75 Lower Simcoe Street, Toronto, ON M5J 3A6. Marriott lists this South Core address near the waterfront and Entertainment District. Compare it for the CN Tower and lakefront side of downtown; check how your main trip connects to Union Station and the streetcar rather than assuming a room facing the water is on the transit platform. Official hotel and location · Address-search map.
  • Park Hyatt Toronto — Yorkville / Bloor-Yorkville: 4 Avenue Road, Toronto, ON M5R 2E8. Hyatt confirms the address in Yorkville, near the Royal Ontario Museum and Bloor Street. Compare it for museum and shopping plans; it is north of the waterfront and central-west attraction cluster, so check the subway route and late return for those evenings. Official hotel information and address · Address-search map.
  • Kimpton Saint George — Annex / Bloor-Yorkville: 280 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON M5S 1V8. IHG places it in the Annex near the Bloor-Yorkville area and identifies subway access nearby. This is a northern comparison for the Royal Ontario Museum, University of Toronto and Bloor Street; distinguish it from a hotel beside Union Station when planning airport or waterfront days. Plan the Pearson transfer and the last mile

First confirm that your flight uses Toronto Pearson (YYZ), not Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). Pearson and downtown are linked by more than one public-transit option, but the stops and transfer needs differ. UP Express runs between Pearson and Union Station, with intermediate stations at Bloor, Mount Dennis and Weston. The airport authority locates the Pearson UP Express station at Terminal 1 beside the free Terminal Link train; passengers starting at Terminal 3 need to ride Terminal Link to Terminal 1. Union is convenient for the Royal York and other central bases, but not every hotel is at Union: add the onward subway, streetcar, taxi or walk and check current departure times and fare rules on the UP Express site.

The TTC’s 900 Airport Express connects Pearson with Kipling Station on Line 2. It is an airport bus, not a direct ride to the downtown hotels in this guide; budget for the subway journey from Kipling and a final walk or transfer at the other end. TTC lists service to the airport terminals and current route/schedule information on its site. The 52 Lawrence West and other TTC routes also serve airport corridors, but are not equivalent to the 900 express. Use the TTC route planner for the exact starting terminal, arrival time and hotel address. If you have heavy luggage, mobility equipment or a tight arrival, compare the transfer count and station access before choosing the lowest-cost-looking option.

Within Toronto, check the TTC Trip Planner, live alerts and elevator/escalator status on your travel date. Contactless payment and PRESTO are accepted for TTC fares; UP Express has its own service and fare information, so verify how your chosen payment method applies to each leg instead of assuming a TTC fare covers the airport train. Service, ticket rules, schedules and fares change. If you are coming from Billy Bishop, ask which transfer option serves your terminal and hotel; do not reuse Pearson instructions.

For an accessible trip, plan the entire chain from terminal to vehicle, platform, interchange, pavement and hotel entrance. A station listing or transit line on a map does not confirm that elevators will be working or that the hotel has an accessible entrance and room that meet your needs. Check live TTC elevator status and ask the property about room layout, bathroom configuration and step-free access. Toronto winters, construction, event closures and streetcar diversions can also change the comfortable last mile, so keep a route alternative for time-sensitive plans.

Choose the address that makes your repeated journeys easiest, not just the one with the most familiar district name. A Union-side base can streamline rail arrivals; Yorkville may suit museum days; a waterfront hotel can make lakefront plans simple; and Old Town or the Distillery may fit a neighborhood-focused visit. These choices trade different journey times and transfer patterns. Hotel facilities, access, transit information and airport services can change.
