United adds live playoff baseball to Starlink seatback screens
United has added live TBS playoff baseball to its live-TV lineup on Starlink-equipped seatback screens, working with DISH, according to a United release dated Oct 9, 2026. The release is the source for every figure below (as of Oct 11, 2026; confirm on United's mediaroom release linked above).
The scale is the bigger story. United says Starlink-equipped seatback service is now on more than 200 planes, covering about 900 flights a day. Customers have watched over 170,000 hours of live TV since the launch last month. In September, over 5.4 million customers, about one-third of United's customers, flew with Starlink.
For loyalty members, the key detail is that Starlink Wi-Fi is free for MileagePlus members in every cabin. That means the connection does not depend on elite status or on the fare you bought, as long as you are a MileagePlus member. Installs are expected to finish in 2027, so not every plane has it yet (as of Oct 11, 2026; confirm on United's mediaroom release and United's Wi-Fi information).
The same release includes a note for elites at other airlines. Delta and American loyalty members can get a status match to United Premier benefits through Jan 31, 2028, per the release (as of Oct 11, 2026; confirm on United's status match page, because the match terms live there).
A status match is a way to try another airline's benefits without earning them from scratch. Whether it is worth doing depends on where you fly and which United routes you can realistically use. Read the eligibility and any requirements on United's page before you apply. This post only repeats what the release says, and the terms are United's to define.
If you want to fly on a Starlink-equipped plane, the release does not say how to pick one when booking. Installs are still underway, so it is worth checking United's own information for the aircraft on your route before you count on the Wi-Fi or the live TV.
The takeaway: free Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members is already on a large share of United's flying, and the lineup now includes live playoff baseball. Details, coverage and the status match terms can change, so confirm on United's official pages before you plan around any of it.
