This is an explainer, not breaking news: what the Air Canada Aeroplan and World of Hyatt partnership is, and whether to link your accounts. Air Canada announced it on July 15, 2026, from Montréal.

As of Oct 10, 2026, per Air Canada’s July 15, 2026 release; confirm current terms on aeroplan.com and world.hyatt.com before transferring.

What the partnership does

Once your accounts are linked, points can move between the two programs, and each program rewards loyalty to the other.

  • Hyatt to Aeroplan: World of Hyatt points transfer at 2:1, starting at 5,000 points and then in 1,000-point increments.
  • Aeroplan to Hyatt: “Linked Aeroplan Elite Status Members can exclusively convert Aeroplan points to World of Hyatt Bonus Points at 2:1,” with a 500-point minimum and limits of “up to 100,000 Aeroplan points per day or 250,000 Aeroplan points per week.”
  • Redemptions: Aeroplan points can book Hyatt Free Night Awards at eligible Category 1–4 and 1–7 hotels, starting at 25,000 Aeroplan points. World of Hyatt points can be redeemed for a 30,000-point Aeroplan flight reward certificate.
  • Per-stay choice: Members can elect 500 Aeroplan points per stay in lieu of earning World of Hyatt points.
  • Annual flight credit: World of Hyatt members get a C$20 Air Canada flight credit each year after linking.

The status shortcut

Per the release, “Aeroplan Elite Status Members and eligible premium credit cardholders” can take a 90-day challenge: 4 nights for Discoverist, 10 for Explorist, or 20 for Globalist. Aeroplan Premium cardholders also get complimentary Discoverist status, five Tier-Qualifying Night credits per year, and two challenge attempts per year. The release adds that “coming later in 2026, World of Hyatt Explorists and Globalists will be able to register for annual challenges” to fast-track to Aeroplan Elite Status; as of Oct 10, 2026 we have not seen that launch announced, so check world.hyatt.com.

The card bonuses are Canadian

Canadian-issued Aeroplan credit cards earn extra at Hyatt, per C$1 spent: Premium earns 2 World of Hyatt Bonus Points plus 2 Aeroplan points, Premium Business earns 2 plus 2.5, Core earns 1 plus 1.5, and Core Business earns 1 plus 2. Those rates do not apply to US-issued cards, so most US readers can skip that section.

When a transfer makes sense

A 2:1 ratio means you give up two points for every one you receive. That is steep, so treat it as a tool for specific gaps, not a routine move.

A transfer can make sense when you are a small amount short of a specific award, such as an Aeroplan flight, and your Hyatt points would otherwise sit unused. It also works when you have already priced the trip both ways and the converted points get you there.

It usually does not make sense for speculative moves, “just in case” transfers, or sending large balances across when you could book the Hyatt stay directly. Points transfers are generally one-way, so confirm the award is available before you move anything.

If you are a US member, the more useful route is probably earning Aeroplan through a transferable currency. Chase, Amex, Capital One and Bilt all list Aeroplan as a partner. Our transfer partners chart has the ratios, and our points and miles hub has more guides.

Before you link

Everything here is subject to terms and conditions. Air Canada’s release links to consolidated terms at world.hyatt.com/content/gp/en/landing/aeroplan-terms.html, so read them first.
