1. Southwest rebuilds Rapid Rewards for 2027: new tiers, harder Companion Pass math

AIRLINES

Southwest announced a rebuilt Rapid Rewards program on Oct 15, with most changes starting Jan 1, 2027. A-List becomes Silver (35,000 tier qualifying points, or TQPs, or 25 qualifying flights) and A-List Preferred becomes Gold (65,000 TQPs or 50 flights). A new Platinum tier takes 140,000 TQPs or 100 flights and includes unlimited Companion Pass trips .

The Companion Pass is the part most flyers will feel. Today it takes 135,000 Companion Pass qualifying points or 100 one-way flights, and those points retire on Dec 31, 2026. In 2027 there is no unlimited pass below 140,000 TQPs. New Milestone Rewards give three Companion Pass trips at 95,000 TQPs or 75 flights.

Cards now count toward tiers: from Jan 1, 2027, every Rapid Rewards cardmember earns 1 TQP per $1 on the Chase-issued card. Current A-List and A-List Preferred benefits continue through Dec 31, 2026. All dates and thresholds are as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on southwest.com/rapid-rewards/2027.

The number: 140,000 TQPs or 100 flights, what unlimited Companion Pass trips now take.

What to do: Total your 2026 flights and spend, then estimate your 2027 TQPs including card spending at 1 per $1. Decide whether 95,000 for three trips is enough or 140,000 is reachable before you change how you earn.

2. World of Hyatt moves point transfers between members online

HOTELS

World of Hyatt is reported to be moving member-to-member point transfers online starting Oct 15. Until now, members downloaded a PDF form, both signed it, emailed it to Hyatt and waited about 48 to 72 hours [read 2026-10-16, https://world.hyatt.com/content/dam/HGP/HyattFinalImages/world-of-hyatt/Point_Combining_RequestForm_En.pdf; lead: https://frequentmiler.com/awesome-news-hyatt-points-transfers-can-be-done-online-from-10-15-26]. Transfers are free.

The old rule allowed one transfer sent or received per 30 days. A Hyatt representative reportedly told Frequent Miler the new caps are 525,000 points sent and 525,000 received per calendar year. We could not open an official Hyatt page describing the feature, so treat the caps, and whether the 30-day rule still applies, as unconfirmed.

Why it matters: Hyatt awards are priced per night, so a household with points split across two accounts may be a few thousand short. Sending points you already hold is free, while Chase Ultimate Rewards moves to Hyatt at 4:3, per our transfer chart.

The number: 525,000 points, the reported yearly cap sent and received (unconfirmed).

What to do: Sign in to your World of Hyatt account, look for the new transfer option and read its limits and timing as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on https://world.hyatt.com. Keep both accounts' names and numbers matching.

3. Hyatt pays 1.5 bonus Aeroplan points per dollar on top of Hyatt points

HOTELS

Hyatt has a promotion that pays Aeroplan points on top of World of Hyatt points. You must register between Oct 14 and Nov 11, 2026, and stays must be completed after you register and between Oct 14, 2026 and Feb 14, 2027. You earn 1.5 bonus Aeroplan points per eligible U.S. dollar on an Eligible Rate, in addition to base Hyatt points of 5 per dollar at most hotels and 2.5 at Hyatt Studios .

The catch is the election. You need free, linked memberships in both programs, and you must have elected Aeroplan points or World of Hyatt points for the stay; the bonus does not apply if you elected another partner program. Bonus points do not count toward Status Qualifying Credits and can take up to 8 weeks to post. Hyatt can alter or withdraw the offer. Dates are as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on that page.

The number: 1.5 bonus Aeroplan points per dollar, register by Nov 11.

What to do: Link your accounts and register before Nov 11 if you have a Hyatt stay planned. Check which points you have elected for that stay and keep your confirmation.

4. United's Wi-Fi status match is reportedly extended to Oct 22

AIRLINES

United's "Premier Status Match For Better WiFi" has reportedly been extended. The request deadline moved from Oct 15 to Oct 22, 2026 [read 2026-10-16, https://promo.united.com/offers/statusmatchbetterwifi; lead: https://thepointsguy.com/news/united-airlines-better-wifi-match-promotion-delta-american]. We covered the original offer on Oct 13; this is about the extension.

The offer is reported for U.S. residents holding Delta Medallion or American AAdvantage elite status. Matched status reportedly lasts 90 days and can be extended to Jan 31, 2028 by spending on qualifying United flights: $1,500 for Silver, $3,000 for Gold, $4,500 for Platinum and $7,000 for 1K. The spend is the real cost of the match.

United's promotion page loaded only as a title and a tagline, with no deadline, mapping or spend amounts as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on promo.united.com/offers/statusmatchbetterwifi.

The number: Oct 22, the reported new deadline, up from Oct 15.

What to do: Do not rely on these figures until you have read the terms on United's page. If you hold Delta or American status and fly United often, compare the required spend with what you would book anyway.

5. Breeze adds four cities and 22 routes, mostly through Myrtle Beach

AIRLINES

Breeze Airways announced four new cities on Oct 13: Boston, Buffalo, Latrobe/Arnold Palmer Regional and Santo Domingo, its second international destination beyond Nassau. The announcement covers 22 routes, 16 nonstop and 6 one-stop "BreezeThru" itineraries with no plane change [read 2026-10-16, https://www.flybreeze.com/news; lead: https://airlinegeeks.com/2026/10/13/breeze-adds-four-new-destinations-22-routes/].

Myrtle Beach anchors most of the list: eleven of the 16 nonstops touch it. Reported starts include Latrobe–Myrtle Beach from Feb 9, 2027, Boston–Myrtle Beach daily from May 4, 2027, and Santo Domingo–Tampa from Jun 18. Reported introductory one-way fares run from $49 to $149 on limited dates. The destinations page we could open lists Latrobe and a Buffalo–Myrtle Beach flight but not yet Boston or Santo Domingo.

Breeze is not on our transfer chart, so these are cash fares. Dates and fares are as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on flybreeze.com/destinations.

The number: 22 routes, 16 nonstop and 6 BreezeThru.

What to do: If you live near Buffalo, Latrobe or Boston, check dates on the Breeze site and compare the cash fare with a points option on another airline. Recheck introductory fares before you book.

6. Delta One's makeover starts on long-haul flights out of Los Angeles

AIRLINES

Delta announced on Oct 14 what it calls its largest investment and most holistic redesign of Delta One in nearly 30 years. The first piece is a "fully reimagined culinary, beverage and hospitality program" that starts on transoceanic Delta One routes departing Los Angeles this fall and expands across the network in early 2027 .

Dates are as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on Delta's newsroom. Dassai 45 sake joins Delta One flights to and from Tokyo Haneda and the Missoni "Winter Elsewhere" amenity kit launches on Nov 3. Blanton's bourbon arrives onboard Dec 1. Cocktails and mocktails launch on international routes in March 2027 and domestic routes in April 2027. Entree pre-selection now closes 18 hours before departure. Trade coverage says the A350-1000 and new suites arrive in early 2027, but we have not confirmed that on a Delta page.

Delta One awards are priced dynamically, so a better menu does not change what a redemption costs. It changes what you get for it.

The number: 18 hours, how far before departure entree pre-selection now closes.

What to do: If you plan a SkyMiles redemption on a long-haul Delta One flight out of LAX, compare the award price with the cash fare and confirm rollout dates on Delta's newsroom. Do not move points until you see space on the flight you want.

How to keep a Companion Pass under the 2027 rules

Southwest's 2027 rules split the Companion Pass into two levels. At Platinum, 140,000 tier qualifying points (TQPs) or 100 flights earns unlimited Companion Pass trips. At the new Milestone level, 95,000 TQPs or 75 flights earns three trips. The old 135,000 Companion Pass qualifying points retire on Dec 31, 2026.

The helpful change is on the card side. From Jan 1, 2027, the Chase-issued Rapid Rewards cards earn 1 TQP per $1, so everyday spending counts toward the same totals as your flights. Transferred Chase points buy flights, but Southwest's pages do not list transfers as a way to earn TQPs.

Current Companion Pass holders keep their benefits to the date shown in My Account. Add up your flights and card spend, then decide whether three trips at 95,000 is enough or 140,000 is reachable. Thresholds are as of Oct 16, 2026; confirm on southwest.com/rapid-rewards/2027.
