Chase Sapphire Reserve Review

Offer and benefit details checked on chase.com on October 9, 2026. Card terms change, so confirm the current offer on Chase’s page before you apply. See our advertiser disclosure.

The short version

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is Chase’s luxury card: $795 a year, lounge access, top-tier travel insurance and a long list of credits. It earns 8X on Chase Travel and 4X on flights and hotels booked direct. Like every premium card now, it rewards people who will use the credits and punishes people who won’t.

  • Annual fee: $795, plus $195 for each authorized user
  • See current offer on the issuer’s site
  • Best for: frequent travelers who want lounges and strong insurance and will use the travel, hotel and dining credits
  • Skip it if: you travel a few times a year; the Sapphire Preferred is the better deal

How you earn

  • 8X on Chase Travel purchases, including The Edit
  • 4X on flights booked directly with airlines
  • 4X on hotels booked directly
  • 3X on dining worldwide
  • 1X on everything else

Note that purchases covered by the travel credit and The Edit credit don’t earn points.

The credits that matter most

  • Up to $300 travel credit each account anniversary year. This works on most travel purchases, so nearly every cardholder uses it.
  • Up to $500 a year for The Edit: up to $250 per prepaid booking with a two-night minimum, through Chase’s luxury hotel program
  • Up to $300 dining credit: $150 January–June and $150 July–December at restaurants in the OpenTable Exclusive Tables program
  • Up to $300 StubHub/viagogo credit ($150 per half-year) through 2027, activation required
  • Up to $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS credit every four years

There’s more: Apple TV and Apple Music, DashPass with monthly DoorDash promos, Lyft and Peloton credits, and IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status through 2027. Spend $75,000 in a calendar year and Chase adds Hyatt Explorist, IHG Diamond, Southwest A-List and extra credits.

Our honest math: the travel credit alone takes the effective fee to $495. Add one Edit stay each half of the year ($500) and you’re ahead before counting lounges. Skip The Edit and you need the dining, StubHub or lifestyle credits to close the gap.
